Don't send it back yet. Wait till the clear coat starts to separate.

Seriously, you are the end user, so you should call the shots. Just remember that you could get it back with more issues than you sent it off with. Shipping to and from, along with what ever is done back at the factory....??? At least at this point you know what you have in hand. IMO, I would just take a deep breath and live with a generally "no show" blem.

It's impossible to buff that area on a wheel- which is why it's so rough. Pull a pickup and see what that looks like..... on any guitar.... be about the same or even worse inside the pickup cav.....It is normal and no big deal at all-

Take a pickguard of a strat and see how smooth that black shielding paint looks.....

Thats not that bad really. Its quite normal on a production guitar. That area is hard to spray with sealer/paint.It could have been done better I agree but shit don't be so anal.
        Really? well screw Mark Twain.

I've seen that on every trem route I've ever inspected. IMO - its normal.

Wouldn't be a big deal to me..but yeah..let's see pics of that whole beauty!! If it really bothers you deal with it. My trem areas are far from perfect..doesn't phase me at all, but that's just me.

Return it and accept nothing less than perfection.

I've had a few jacksons with floyds and the paint in the all routes looked/looks like that. No big deal IMO. The finish quality in the routes of other manufacturers looks better to me.
I feel festive all year round. Deal with it.

I would not be bothered by that at all. I've never looked in the trem routes of mine even. I think if you go back for a refund there is a good possibilty you will get another guitar with the same issue.

It's weird that some of you guys are saying that's common for recessed trem routes. I've got several others, and NONE are rough like this. Not a single one. I guess Newc and I have just gotten lucky.

Flametop: Warranty service? I pretty much just opened the box. Nope, I'm not going there. If anything, it's going back for a refund.

And if this flaw is seeming "anal" to some of you guys, bear in mind that this is the 3rd custom shop guitar that I've received with issues this year. The first two were certainly more significant flaws, but think about the frame of mind that might put you in on this subject. Know what I mean?

I don´t know of ANY manufacturer that finish sands and buffs the inside of routs.

While it is a bit "strong", I´d consider that absolutely normal.

BTW, isn't it strange that two sides of the route are buffed perfectly smooth - just like the surface - but the other two are sloppy?

...I don't think i would be happy with that, you should send it back if you can't live with it, looks a bit thin to me...

when i have sprayed guitars i do concentrate on the main area, front back and sides etc but i have also always given them a base primer and at least 4-6 coats of final colour so to my mind i don't think i have ever not painted that bit you show because of the amount of coats done covers it.

That looks pretty poor to me, if you were nearer to me i'd fix it for you!

Send it back and tell them to fix it....

you guys spend years to save your money to buy these guitars and they are not cheap so think quality!!!!

...no i agree but if you look closely you can see the wood to the guitar, i have never finished off the inside but i have made sure the paint i am spraying covers the area at the time, know what i mean?

It's normal, but not to that degree. I checked all of my recessed trem routes and none are that bad. In fact, the Rands are as smooth as the rest of the guitar
