Yes.. it does look to be an Ontario....still a San Dimas plate... just not pre '86. This may sound like an obvious statement to some of you guys.. but note the 'date', the cavity and the plate #'s don't match.
.. it's likely an '87 custom shop order. The chambers really don't bother me.. the guitar playes fine. I actually bought it thinking it was a model two body that had a USA Jackson plate. It was quite a surprise when I got it and learned it is a Jackson body. So its just the fact that someone went ahead and did this which really devalued the instrument overall resale value...good for me I guess but a head scratcher none the less..
Any more info or corrections are welcome.. feel free to add something of value.. this board has a wealth of info locked up in some peoples heads... my Jackson knowledge isn't as up to snuff as some poeple who post here.Last edited by charvelguy; 09-21-2006, 12:36 PM.

Fill the cavities with a different tone wood, or reverb springs....yeah, that's the ticket! lolTransitioning from Retired Musician from cover bands to a Full time vocalist/frontman/guitarist in an original and covers band....it's been a while and this should get NASTY!

Tom, that is definitely a late dimas route as it's the 4 hole cover and shaped a bit differently than the brushed metal cover we're used to seeing. They started those when they started going with all the new electronics packages which required more room for batteries and such. They didn't use those routes for very long. I have two soloists with that particular route and since the yellow crackle cover guitar that I have, may have been the prototype, I believe it was probably one of the first, if not THE (pronounced THEE) first.
And the other 86 Dimas:
