It's very cool Matt, but you're a very brave man if you're going to think about adding inlays!

Think about what you are saying. Do you realize that a quality inlay job will require a fret job at the same time? Personally, I think the guitar has a lot of class and looks really clean with out any BS on the board. At what point in time during your wait did you change your mind about the decision to keep the fretboard clean? Remember , it is your guitar. The opinions of others thinking the board needs something are just others opinions. Don't let it sway you from your original vision.

It is one of the nicest guitars I have seen ordered.
+1 gazillion - well said Mike

        +2 gazillion.

However, I think that Mike doesn't realize that these aren't "new" ideas for Newc. IIRC, he was contemplating the inlays - and possibly other mods! - way back when he originally placed the order with the custom shop. I believe his thinking was/is that it would be cheaper and/or more flexible to have some work done aftermarket than by the custom shop. So, rather than order exactly what he wanted, he ordered something to leave flexibility to mod later on.

IMHO that's quite a flawed approach. And I'd also hate to see that beauty changed at all. But it's Newc's guitar. So if he wants to ruin it, that's entirely up to him. j/k bro.:ROTF:

Shred's correct - I did post two mockups at the time I ordered it - one as it is now and one with gold Iommis. Last I heard was that Jackson would not do gold MOP, and I didn't (and still don't) feel that regular MOP or abalone would look as good to me as gold/brass, but I did ask Scott about halfway through the wait if it was too late to change the work order to add inlays, and he suggested that doing so would delay the order, which at the time was a very bad thing cuz it would have put me at the bottom of the list.

And I knew that routing for inlays would require a fret job, which is why I thought about using brass shim stock with little tangs on each piece to secure them to the board. The routes would only have to be .008" deep (thickness of the material) and should be "fret safe" if it's done by hand rather than with a motorized cutting tool. It'd be more expensive that way in the long run, which is why I asked about adding the inlays before it was finished.

Maybe some gold foil and some glue.....

Fuggit. Down a bottle of JD, grab a chisel and mallet and get to work, slacker!

I dig the clean look of no inlays. When playing live, all I see is the edge of the fretboard anyway...who needs inlays?

Another vote for no inlays here. That's about the only non-ghey part of that axe!

Well, since half-ghey is ghey, may as well go all the way, eh?

Put one inlay at the 12th fret.
