Deciding I had too much gear and wanting some cash with the holidays coming up, I just sold some amps, effects and my SL2H LTD Trans Purple Burst. I wasn't expecting to replace the SL2H, but since I did alright with the amps, my wife (the boss) was cool with me replacing the SL2H.
I decided for a change and spotted a Red Rum PC-1 on e-bay that was signed by Phil Collen for a promotion that PETA was doing promoting Phil's vegetarian lifestyle (you may have seen it). The guitar was given away as part of a contest. The winner was a gal that wasn't a guitarist and she sold it shortly after winning it on ebay. I received the guitar today and it is brand new. Red Rum would not have been my first pick, but now that I have seen it in person, It is really growing on me. Photos don’t do the red rum PC-1’s justice.
Anyway, I am a bit perplexed about this instrument. If it really was brand new from Jackson for a promotion, it would probably have been set up with .10’s from the factory tuned to E right? Instead, it is set up with .12’s or heavier intonated to D tuning. The winner of the contest was not a guitarist and wouldn’t have had the guitar dropped and intonated with .12’s and D tuning. So I am still trying to figure out more about this guitar’s journey before the contest.
The guitar is signed by Phil and below he wrote “vegetarian” underneath it. My thoughts are…at a minimum, the “Vegetarian” has got to go. Thought I would get your guys opinion on whether to remove Phil’s sig on the front. I am assuming his sig on the front wouldn’t increase the value. What are your thoughts…should I remove it?
Any thoughts, or additional information about this particular guitar is appreciated.
