That does look like a sibling. I was kind of suspicious of the top on mine, like it was a foto-flame or something. In person it really looked flat and 2D. Still a cool guitar, though. It's odd that I heard the exact same Marty Friedman story with mine. He supposedly ordered it through DCGL and returned it or didn't pick it up or some line of horseshit.

Maybe try reading the fucking rules before spamming the forum with a sale ad!

That's crazy. Maybe there is some validity to that whole story. When I bought it, the inspection tag had KE-1 on it....where there other models that bore the KE-1 designation that weren't Friedman's signature line? Mine wasn't pre-owned when I bought it, but it wasn't from DCGL.

I think your kelly was from Los Music (in Texas if I remember). Here's a pic that I got from their website when I bought my KE1T from them in 2000. They had the trans red KE1 and a trans blue KE1 just like it on their site. Both were listed on their website as prototype Kellys for NAMM. I haven't seen any others like these since then. Great looking guitars! By chance have you pulled the pickup to see if there are any markings inside the route?

I don't recall the name of the store but it was either in Dallas or OKC that I bought it in. Now that I think about it, it might've been in '99, but the guitar's serial number is from '98. I wonder if its the same guitar? What would I be looking for in the PU route?

            Thanks for the info, btw.

My pic isn't close enough to see the quilt in the body and match it to yours, but if I had to guess, it's probably the same guitar. I try to keep tabs on KE1s and I've only seen the 1 trans red one like yours. There might be some writing in the PU route. I have a NAMM guitar and it has it written in the route. Not that a handwritten note makes it definitive but I'd be curious if there was anything to possibly confirm what was on Los Music's website and match it to yours.

Does your KE-1 have a J-serial number or a regular serial number? Reason I ask is that if it was originally built for Marty it would most likely carry a Custom Shop serial number. Of course it could be a Custom Shop order that had nothing to do with Marty as well. I have one of Marty's KE-1's that was used on the Cryptic Writings tour and album and it has a J-serial number. back in the days when you were able to call the Jackson Custom Shop, Celeste there sent me a copy of the work order and I verified it was Marty's Unfortunately they don't do that anymore
                  Nice Kelly btw

No, it has the regular "O" serial number from that year. Just like Axewielder's blue Kelly it doesn't have an artist signature or custom shop logo on the headstock, just "made in USA". Johnnyryche is probably on the right track with it being a NAMM prototype. I'm gonna check the routing like he said and see if there's any indicator.

Thanks for the compliments on the guitar. That single PU/volume setup sounds killer. You can hear a distinct volume/output increase when I plug it in after any of my other guitars. I've started re-wiring some of my guitars to bypass the tone pots if I dont use them to get a similar effect.

Either way you have a nice Kelly! Of course the Blue Quilt one in this thread is killer too! I love blue BTW, there are plenty of custom shop guitars that don't have the Custom Shop logo on them
