  • KV-2 transition into KE-2... experiences?

    Hello

I was thinking, how bad is the transition from a King V (or in any case a flying V shaped guitar) to a Kelly (explorer) shaped guitar?

I've played V's for about 7 years now and I'm very comfortable with the shape, also, I can play them in the sitting position very well since I use the "classical guitar position" and the V shape fits perfect between my right leg.

But, now and then I get curious about the Kelly's shape and I wonder how bad will it feel to the V, like, neck/body balance, comfort, weight, etc.

I wonder like this because as much as I love the KV-2, I just can't stand the 3 way BLADE, I need a 3 way toggle, like the Ke-2 does. So, it will be interesting that way too (this is without counting my custom V, Im talking about selling my KV-2 to get a KE-2).

But, since I won't have any experience until this December... I wanted to gather some experiences from you guys. Thanx

    True dat.

I will say that the Kelly and V hang in different positions with a strap, as well as sit differently. The bridge on the Kelly will be farther forward than a V in Classical position (mostly because you cannot sit in Classical Position with a Kelly).

Er, why not just have someone install a toggle on your KV then? Seems like much less of a hassle tossing a body style you're comfy with...

For some reason I think the volume knob on my KE is fair bit closer to the pickups/strings than on the KVs, or it could just be me...I dont know.

this is an odd one, so im with ron.
Just drill a hole where the blade switch goes, might not look very nice but it do the job. Plus your gonna have to get a beater now that your getting a custom

That's funny. I sit with all my guitars in the classical position. LPs, Explorers, V's, Kellys.

Is there anybody who ACTUALLY likes the blade switch on the KV-2? I mean, if Jackson would give the option, will you keep it or get the toggle?

I prefer the blade on the KV2 to the toggle on a Soloist. It feels more solid. And it means that you get a little smurf hat, without the smurf headstock.

                  Smurf hat good

                  Toggle switch BAD

I can already feel sullen waves of ostracization flowing over me because of that opinion, but what the hey...

I don't mind either... though almost all my Jacksons have toggles (except my DKMGT and, well... my COW DK6 ), so I'm more or less used to the toggle.

I think it's far more bothersome that on my Rhoads the toggle moves up/down, but on my other guitars it moves sideways.

The Warrior is essentially the KE but with a better classical sitting position.

Same here. Every guitar I've ever played has been in the classical position.

I would rather have the toggle on the KV2.

+1 I have to agree. I have blades, toggles, some on the upper bout (Les Paul) some on the lower (SG). Just deal with it.

I think it's a lot more of a question of the shape of a V vs. a Kelly. I love the way the my picking arm rest on a Kelly, solid for rythm. But for leads, that lower horn is a little too close.

For a V, the upper frets are wide open to go for it.
