I've only had very little time to play the guitar, so far it is Awesome. I've played other SL2H's before I bought this one. So already knew it would be kick ass.

Didn't all those purple S series come with gold hardware?

The 1997 S540FMTP had black hardware, the 1997 S540FMTT had gold.
But, the 1996 S540FMTT had gold . Another interesting thing is that the back of the guitar is flamed maple too.

Cant wait to see how long the Jackson becomes number 1. If it isnt already!

I took some time to tweak the new guitar today. I wanted to wait, at least a day, and let it acclimatize, before I made any adjustments.

When I got the guitar the tuning was a little flat (E-standard). The trem was perfectly level. So I tuned it. The trem was still pretty much level, but not perfect.

So it's time to open up the trem cavity cover. A fraction of a turn later...perfectly level.

Of course it's a floating trem guitar , so it took a couple of "tries" to get it right.

So far so good.

The action seems a little high....I break out the feeler gauges and record the factory settings. Then start lowering. I get it to about 1.6mm and 1.4 mm @ the 12th fret and feel that's good enough for now.

Time to check the intonnation. It was a little sharp across the board. So I moved all the saddles back. I moved one of the saddle retaining screws back too, so that it would have a little more saddle to grab on to.

I measured the neck bow when I first got the guitar. There may be a tiny bit more forward bow than when I got it, but not much. It's less than .5mm's or .020 inches. Cool....no truss rod adjustment necessary at this point.

The pickups. When I first open the case I noticed that the bridge pup was way low (below the pup ring). One of the first thing I did was adjust that. I was worried something was wrong with it. But after raising it, it's fine. Though it is still kinda "loose". I think I remeber that from playing other soloist. If I had one thing to complain about. It would be that.

While I was at it, I tweaked the bridge pup. It was close to perfect to begin with.

I'll probably wait a week before I "mess" with anything else.


The finish is great. I like it alot better than I thought I would. The fluorescent lights in the guitar shops and pictures just don't do it justice. Sometimes the blue almost looks black. Or vice versus...and so on. Cool!


Anyway, after some minimal tweaking the guitar plays great, one of the best guitars I have ever played. I wanted to get a jackson 17 years ago. Now I finally got one. It was worth the wait.
