At Guitar Center, ALWAYS talk to the General Manager or floor manger. Do not bs, no don't act like a hard sell with a bunch of questions. Just tell the sales guy you want to talk to the manager, and don't even tell him why. When he comes over, shake his hand introduce yourself point and say "I've got xxx amount of cash and I want to buy that right now".
The GM does not work on commission, so he'll easily drop the commission overhead. Also, he's the only one who has authority to go below their "bottom price" on the computer, and if he likes you, he can even go into the files in the back to see what they've actually got into it, so you can actually get stuff for pretty cheap.
Pisses off the average sales associate, but if you know what you want, have a fair price in mind (regardless of what the tag says) the GM is the guy to talk to.
The old GM at SJ Guitar Center used to always come up to me when he saw me and shake my hand, and all the sales associates would give me dirty looks cause they knew I wouldn't deal with them.
