If you want to sound like AC/DC's rhythm, you'll need a Gretsch Duojet like Malcolm Young.

You have a SG with a Fat neck? I want it. Fat like a basball bat is good! I hate 60's necks. I've never played or seen an SG with a 50's neck. Where can you get them?

I used to have a '61 Re-issue........for 5 weeks at least!!! It just didn't compare to my Jackson's so..........I replaced it with another Jackson (just like I replaced a Les Paul I had for 6 weeks with a Soloist Archtop Custom). The necks on Gibson's are just too fat (even the 60's profile) for my taste.
Tonally, the SG was no where near my DK1 in all areas. I'm a big Sabbath and AC/DC fan but this wasn't enough to warrant keeping it.

Want to hear a real shocker? I once owned a cherry sunburst Les Paul Custom (Gibson, not Epiphone) for three days. I took it back and traded it in for.....are you ready for this?....a Kramer Focus 1000.

Seriously. It was a combination of things:

            1. I had wanted a Floyd for some time.

            2. I discovered that the Gibson PAF's weren't really for me.

            3. The Les Paul was so gorgeous that I was afraid to play out with it anywhere.

I have no regrets about the above decision and I still have that Kramer.

            Memories...

Wow I can see your reasoning....but....
Glad you still have the Kramer!

Yep, and I would do the same if I had it to do again. The Les Paul was one year old and I bought it for about $570.00 or so. I brought it home on Wednesday, and by Friday I had decided that it wasn't my cup of tea. So on Saturday, I traded it in for a new Focus 1000 that listed for $480.00 and they gave me about $90.00 in store credit.

The Les Paul, if I still had it, would bring about $1200.00 or so. The Kramer, being super clean like it is, would probably bring about $300.00, but I don't care. I did the right thing.

What year of Les Paul Custom? I don't think you've been keeping up with prices lately

I have an even spread of Gibsons, Jacksons, and Charvels. Each does what it does well. My 750XL is a tone monster, my SG Std nails classic Black Sabbath, and my 1977 Les Paul Custom nails Thin Lizzy like no SL2H could. But put them in the wrong role, and you have issues. I couldn't get a thick metal tone from my '77 Custom if my life depended on it. But GnR, no problems.

I was told that it was one year old at the time, so that would make it a 1985 model.

What do you think it would sell for these days?

Over $2K. The mid 80s were hit and miss as far as quality. Gibson was up for sale, people were bailing out of a sinking ship. Gibson was purchased in 1986, and give it a couple of years to get the quality back up to snuff. I personally would stay away from Gibsons from the 80's for the most part. There are no doubt good ones, but the odds of getting a dud are much higher.

My first LP was a 1972 fretless wonder. I couldn't stand the low frets and sold it (I think I bought and sold it in the mid $800 range). This was in 1989. I didn't get back into LPs until Dec 2002. That LP would be worth around $3k or more now.

An SG must be wielded by the right player. Nobody with an SL2H is gonna kill Angus Young or Tony Iommi with their SGs. Their powers with an SG will squash any feeble attempts to challenge them with an SL2H - and don't bring EMGs because they will crush you with tone before they even plug in.

I want REAL change. I want dead bodies littering the capitol.

Well, I admit I was playing with a Soloist Archtop, it's probably got more wood to it in terms of mass that an SG.
