This is my first own Custom. I placed it 14 months ago through Matt's Music. The idea was to get something that:
1. I couldn't get used
2. reflected my personal taste
3. included specs from the guitars of Andy Cairns of Therapy? (SGs) as a tribute to their great music
4. was cost effective as this was my "first attempt"
5. still looked like an entity and not specs forced together
Anyway the above was pretty much the starting point for placing the order. After several mockup versions I finally went with this:
Some time after placing the order I got the official Work Order document:
Anyway after this the waiting began and I must say I was VERY disappointed for the lack of communication & status info during the process. I thought interaction was a part of custom orders but obviously I was wrong.
Two weeks ago I finally got the good news that the guitar is at Matt's store. He send some pics and from them I could see that the logo size was done wrong but it was no biggie for me.
Yesterday the guitar arrived at my door. According to the hang tag it was finished in early August 2006?!?!? So it took 7 months from completion before I got it. But the wait was worth it. The guitar is all I hoped for and the logo size mistake was compensated (intentionally?) with a G&G custom fit case instead of the cheaper SKB that I speced.
The main "personal" specs were:
- the idea of a shortscale neck on a neckthru star (full fret access, different balance and overall different feel/look)
- custom neck shape that turned out perfect
- special dark trans red finish - think Dr. Pepper.
- white binding for max contrast with the finish
