  • Are factory cases supposed to be super tight?

I love the SL1 I just got, but the case is mega tight. Has that been your experience as well? I have a USA Fusion and an import Fusion, both with factory case, but these aren't tight, just a good, snug fit.

    Is this normal?

I had the same issue with my SL1.

Same here. I have a Blue Green Pearl SL1 and the case is tighter than your sister's taco.

I mentioned this to John Walker when I was at the Jackson Clinic last summer. He said Jackson was aware of the tightness and other problems of these cases and was working on a solution mostly with the lack of length. The cases are too short. One good blow to the headstock area and you will have a cracked headstock or broken neck. This is especially true for the pointy headstocks. It happend to some forum members in the past and on a PC1 that I had years back. Tight is OK provided you have enough material to absorb shocks. The Jackson SKB cases blow IMHO. There is better quality out there.

I won't bore you all by rehashing this, but when I got the SL2H from GC, they didn't have the factory case so they wound up throwing in a Road Runner Case. It's a hardshell case, but with a soft outer lining. What I really don't like is the fact that it has zippers instead of latches.

However.....I'm honestly concerned that this Jackson case could eventually warp the neck or something, so I might get a Road Runner for it, as well.

Agghh! Zippers and of course buckles. That is two things you don't need near a guitar.

My SL1 is the same way ! Try putting your Fusion in the case and I bet you will have about 1" differents between the two guitars ! The Fusion has a Gibson scale of 24"3/4" and the SL1 is a Fender scale of 25"1/2" !

The case of my SL2 fits perfectly. The case of my SL1 is tight around the headstock area as well, but not problematically so (I hope...)
I've got one of those zippered cases for a Dean ML. I like it a lot. The zipper will probably not last as long as latches, but for about a third the price of the regular hardcase I'm not complaining.

My case is also very tight, in the headstock reigon for sure. But I play my SL1 too much, so its usually at risk of getting banged up in my hands. But it would be the suck if it did mess with the neck and/or headstock.
