New old stock at a local music store, got it for a very reasonable price. Almost got the DK-1 with the Pilo O Skulls graphics but this one played and sounded better and was less.

Are my eyes playing tricks on me or does the volume knob on DK1s seem to be more "out of the way", i.e. further from the pickup, than other Dinky/Soloist models?

Yes the Volume knob is a little lower than on other soloists.
