the return of my old LTD

i bought ltd083 brand new in june of 1992; took out a bank loan to pay for it. i sold it in 2003, and it was sold again to pebber. a few weeks ago, he was kind enough to me to ask me if i wanted it back. oh hell yes i did! so i wired the dough and he shipped it out. i was so surprised to see it today; i was expecting it to take 10 days or so for it to get here, certainly not 2!

so imagine my joy at the return of my old friend as i popped open the case:




and imagine my horror when i saw the bass side of the neck/headstock.



thankfully, it's not a full break; the face of the headstock is fine, as is the treble side. i wish that this were an unpainted neck, because matching the aged white is going to be harder than chinese algebra (to quote tom waits).

so, we'll see what we can do about the insurance claim and getting it repaired; pebber's a hell of a nice guy, and i have the utmost of confidence that we'll be able to get it taken care of. it's always a shame when this sort of things happens, but man...why this time?

thanks guys; i think one thing that will be difficult is to find someone in the dallas area who can handle the paint after the neck is repaired; i'm not shipping it anywhere.

Ah man Sully! Crapola! Maybe check at Charlie's Guitar Shop to see if they know of a painter? Since Jackson uses PPG Urethanes, an automotive refinishers supply should be able to use that digital color replicator thingy and get you an exact match. I believe they are not a clear coat on the opaque colors, so you could use the DCC formulation urethane. If it's clear coated (which I think it isn't, but if it is) you can use the DBU base coat and clearcoat. The solid DCC buffs up nice and actually looks better than clear coated solid colors. The DCC is like 3 parts however.

Sorry to see this and I imagine Pebber is just as bummed. I had a Jackson case destroyed recently by UPS. It had an RR1 in it, but survived. These shippers suck!

bengal - have you ever been to charlie's before? i know that you're in houston and all, so i'm guessing probably not. but do you know anything about that place? are they any good as far as repairs go? i'm way too emotionally attached to the guitar to fix it myself, and the only place i know around here that i could take it would be easton's.

I did my best at packing it properly, but I had a similar case with JRE where customs opened the parcel, misplaced it back and as a result it got damaged.

Hey man, that blows ! Hope you find a place close by to get it fixed. If you change your mind about shipping it to a repair shop, DS Music here in Newark could do it. Dana Sutcliffe does awesome work. He does all my work and its always been top notch.
