Jackson SL2H Green Ghost Flames

Hi, guys! I've just got Jackson SL2H Green Ghost Flames. Amazing guitar. I want to restore it to original condition (except pickups).

I have question for you. I've got it with pearl knobs. Here is pic:


Does it came with such knobs? I checked Jackson 2002 catalog and there is standard black knobs. - http://audiozone.dk/CatalogScans/Jac...2002Page02.jpg It also looks like it got green pickup rings.

But at the same time i've seen alot of GGF Jacksons with such knobs (pearl ones). Maybe there is so much people changing them? Frankly speaking, i can't stand them and i'll change them to black ones, like on standard SL2Hs and SL1s. Anyone knows where i can get EXACT the same as Jackson sets on their guitars? Also Jackson uses CTS® Pots and Switchcraft® Switches. Anyone knows where is can get EXACT the same?

Also i want to change pickups to Seymour Duncan. I want really aggressive sound with bridge pickup for riffs and soloing. I really dig Gilbert sound and i think i'll go with SD Duncan Distortion pickup in the bridge. Is it close to Dimarzio Super Distortion sound wise? I also want kinda bumbling neck pickup sound for sweep arpegios things. What you can recommend? I am thinking about SD Full Shred.

Also what year GGF finish was made? Only in 2002? Was it a limited edition?

Most people with EMG's switch the knobs since the new pots (from the EMG's) have different/weird posts and the original knobs usually don't fit right, and, like in my case, they kinda "orbit" around the post when you tighten the screw, every time you turn the volume up or down it won't turn concentrically, it will turn like "oribiting" around the post. Actually I guess you could find a way to level the knob with the pots but in my case it kept orbiting after a while.

That's why I got black metal knobs (look the same) but, they were of the press-in type (no screws) so now it rolls right.

BUT, I lost the original knobs, so one day I e-mailed Jackson and asked the same question you are asking (since I wanted to get another set of "original" knobs and give them a second chance) and they gave me a part number and told me to order them through a dealer.

Any pickup suggestions? I was told that SD Duncan Distortion is kinda bright pickup and i want fit good on alder guitar. I want aggressive sound for shreding and whammy bar stuff, but at the same time i am bored with JB.

Brother I also was bored with the JB in my SL1, I tried a Custom and Distortion and gave them plenty of EQ time and I was still in the struggle. I put the JB back in and it rocked me all over again.

But everybody has their own tastes, and they do change! So one day I might stick the Custom or DD back in for the hell of it.

No neck pickup and truss rod cover etc. Was setuping guitar and stuff like that, so its not the best time for pics, but anyway. Enjoy.





Anyone knows where i can get original black jackson knobs, Switchcraft 3-way switch and CTS pots?

There's one almost exactly like that at a store here, only it's got SD-pickups and black knobs.. I've been drooling at it for a long time, that is a beautiful finish you've got there! Not sure where you find the knobs, I happen to think the ones you've got now are really nice, they match that Jackson logo and the sharkfin inlays perfectly

If that's not the guitar from Quanaka, that's interesting cos it means there are 2 GGF SL2Hs out there with abalone inlays and logo....

Leo, a liitle trick to eliminate the off center characteristic when using set screw knobs on smaller shaft's, is to align the set screw parallel with the slot in the shaft. Tighting the set screw will not "squash" the split shaft sides and keep the knob on center. Works great! I think this was a Dan Erlewine tech tip!

Hmmm ... My GGF SL1 came with abalone inlays and logo. I just assumed this was standard for the model.

I thought MOP was standard.

I may be now but I am sure when I bought mine I could have sworn their website stated abalone was standard (at least for SL1s) but that was back in 2004. The site now says MOP is standard. I could be wrong though.
