  • Tie Die Paint USA Fusion

Hey everyone, Im new to the board here and just purchased a 1991 USA Fusion Tie Die to go with all the other GAS induced goodies in the stable. My question is basically revolving around the tie die paint, I know it is original ( I frothed over it hanging in the store in 1991 and it has come full swing 16 years later) ... I recently was introduced to the original owner of the guitar and was shocked when he showed it to me ... a little bit of negociating and the guitar was headed home with me. In this neck of the woods, I have never seen another Tie Die paint job, so the question is .... are they rare, or did us midwesterners just not take to them. I remember when the guitar was for sale, the asking price was $1999 (in 1991) and the reason for the outrageous price was 'special paint & that they ((the retailer)) purchased it at "the guitar show" (NAMM ? I doubt it or any other really)'. The original owner seperated himself from $1700 to take this home. He and I did a little horse trading and I am more than comfortable with the transaction we did. Can anyone spread any light on this thing, I have only been able to come up with 2 or 3 pics of other tie die guitars and NO information on them. The tie die's I have seen pics of are wildly different, so, is there, or could there be something special about this one ???? Gimme a little feedback on what you think .......

    Thanks alot for your time

Oh, and I put a pic of it up on the "show us your fusion" thread ...................

That paint scheme was a standard US Production offering from 1990 through at least 1992 and was available at no upcharge. In fact, Jackson USA Production guitars had no upcharge for graphics until around late 1992. The USA Fusion was selling for $1100 in AMS and MF back in 1990, with case plus shipping. Great guitar, and you're right, you just don't see too many of them around. Is the back solid orange?

Yes, Charvel750, the back is solid orange .. and the guitar is 100% original, absolutely no mods whatsoever ... although, that is not to be confused with "MINT" ... lol .. lets just say, it had a case issue where the hinge broke and the guitar came out the bottom of the case ... a couple times ... :S .... but, the tie die wasnt harmed, it was all paint-only damage on the orange on the sides ...... thinking about having them fixed and re-clearing .... would that kill it value wise?

tie-dye's are rare and generally fetch more than other Jackson graphic guitars from that era. They are definitely unique... congrats on the new guitar!

Thanks Charvel750 & Bert, here is a pic in the sunlight this morning which shows the colors a little more vibrant.

              Thanks Quicksilver,
As I stated above, I wanted this one when I first saw it 16 years ago! Its kind of like that relationship story of being in love with a woman, when she lives with another man ....
I have been speaking with a couple local guys here in Southwest Ohio, and have got a lead on a local guy that is specializing in nothing but guitar painting, to do some repair work on the back of the guitar ... so, once we finish researching him and figuring out who he is and what he can do, Ill post some contact info and pics .....

As much as I hate the eerie des swirl paintjob...I love that one.
I would so snatch that up it if were 24 frets

I'm out like Axl Rose just before a GNR concert

So are you in the Cinci area? update your profile with the info.

I have 3 Fusions, but all imports. One Charvel Fusion Deluxe, one Jackson Fusion Professional, and one that is a Jackson Fusion Professional neck with a Charvel Fusion Deluxe body. Love the short scale length.

I love the graphics on the USA Fusiona, but as you will find on this board, the MIJ Jacksons in the 1990 - 92? years were almost the same axe as the USA's, with bound ebony and MOP inlays. I can't hack the price the USA's go for.

Hey there DonP, I live straight up 75, in Franklin, about 20 minutes north of 275 ... sorry bout the lack of info, I hadnt gotten in to update everything yet.

I have had a few Import Jacksons in the past couple years, I buy them as fixer uppers, blow them apart, replace pots, jacks & switches, clean them up, frets leveled and re-crowned .. basically get them in 100% condition ... and people want them ... so I sell them ... I do it with alot of different brands ... This USA Fusion Tie Die came to me in a deal for a strat that had been totally gone thru as mentioned, otherwise, alot of the time they are either going for more than I can hack when you figure the additional time & funds going into them, or I arrive a day late and a dollar short.

Its great to run into someone from this neck of the woods ...

Have you checked out a band that plays down in Cheviot @ the Knotty Pine Club, called Hollywood? The lead player for them plays a handful of Jacksons, his main one being a late 80's white with red oriental sun grafix USA soloist, that he is the original owner on, looks to be in fantastic condition. They do all late 80's hair metal setlists and pack the place out pretty good. I normally head down once a month and check them out!

I live pretty close to you, 129 and 747 (Liberty Twp.).

Sounds like a cool band to check out, I love 80's stuff being 41 years old.

Unforetunatly I was in a bad car accident in March and I'm just starting to learn to walk again (broke both legs and an arm). Maybe once I get better we can meet up someday.
