Anyone know what year the "KV1" model number started to be used on King V's? Weren't they simply called King V's and not KV1's in the 80's?

Interesting. Did the 1996 change to KV1 coincide with the
first "select series" King V's? Or, did the select models start to appear before or after 1996?_________________________________________________

The original "King V" in the '80s was a larger body (originally known as a Double Rhoads... the long wing of a Rhoads is longer than today's King V, so think of two long Rhoads wings on the original), and was first made for Dave Linsk (lead guitar now in Overkill). Rumor has it that Robbin "King" Crosby of Ratt saw Dave's guitar being worked on at the factory and he had some made for him.
Here's a replica of Robbin's "Big Red" compared to the smaller size. Not sure exactly when they downsized it, though.

I found that 1996 catalog scan quite interesting. Looks like the KV2 was a cost-reduced version of the V at that time, with a rosewood board and bolt-on neck. MIJ?_________________________________________________
