Well, it may matter when buying online. Because the "transition" period guitars have more risk of QC issues. But obviously if someone has an on-hands experience with the guitar it doesn't matter.
    Because I don't say it
    Doesn't mean I ain't thinking it

Er, how do you figure that? There 's still lots of "year" left after mid-January Like, ya know, 50 weeks? I say they moved later on in '03.

          From wikipedia...

Wayne Charvel sold his interest in the Charvel name to Grover Jackson on November 10, 1978. The shop was located in Glendora, California (while using a PO Box in neighboring San Dimas) and manufactured guitars in this location from 1979 to 1986, when the Company merged with IMC (International Music Corporation), a Texas based importer of musical instruments. The factory then moved to Ontario, California.

In the Fall of 2002, Fender Guitar Company purchased Jackson/Charvel, and operations were moved to the Fender factory in Corona, CA. Fender is now manufacturing guitars that are almost exactly like the original San Dimas Charvels, save for a few details. Both Jackson and Charvel models are being produced at Corona.

This means, your guitar was manufactured in Corona. The wikipedia info seems to contradict what Rudy said about the tour. *confused*

Wow, I thought this would be an easy question!

I have digital photos of our tour and it was definetly the Ontario location. Heck, Celeste greeted us at the door I will find my pix and see what the date is but for some reason I'm thinking even though Fender may have bought them in 02, they were still in Ontario till some time in late 03/early 04. If I'm wrong about the date I'll admit it. I also seem to remeber other JCFer's went on a tour of the Corona factory at Winter NAMM 04. Therefore I'm going to guess the move was around summer 03 (?). I don't know.

No, it doesn't. As if Wikipedia is always a factually correct resource, anyway?

In this case, it happens to be correct, though. What's incorrect, however, is the way you interpreted what it says. i.e., It says that FMIC bought J/C in the Fall of '02 and (although this phrase is missing and, hence, unclear...) subsequently moved the custom shop to Corona. The statement is, therefore, silent on when the custom shop move occured. It does not say FMIC bought J/C and moved the custom shop both in Fall of '02.

I believe RacerX is correct. Although the buyout happened in Fall of '02, the custom shop move didn't actually happen until late in '03 or early '04.

And Roody toured Ontario in early '03.

Maybe we can add these dates to wiki

yes, by all means please do! Its free and anyone can add/update most of the articles. I have wondered many times about opening a thread on this topic asking JCF'ers to add new/more details or modify incorrect details. There's so much information and knowledge on these forums it would be a shame not to let the world know more about Jackson/charvel.

O.K. I found my pix of the Ontario Custom Shop These three pictures were taken on 1/17/03 when a small group of JCFers toured the shop with Lloyd from GuitarXpress.Com

                        JCFers with Tim Wilson:

Limited Edition Charvel Bullseyes complete, in fact some members picked theirs up from Lloyd during NAMM at this time. I had Lloyd ship mine because I didn't want the airlines to loose it or damage it at the time:

...and finally a picture of Tim Wilson standing with the files that contain the info on the previously built custom shops, yeah we were all salivating wanting to dig into those files too!

In spring of that year, 2003, I got a call from Lloyd while at the custom shop to confirm some things on a custom shop Soloist I had on order. Mike Kotzen wanted to confirm some things. Lloyd was visiting the Ontario shop at the time. Therefore I'm sticking to my story that the move to Corona didn't happen anytime before summer of 2003 and possibly even later. Hope you enjoy the pix

So with that hang tag date of 5/8/03, the work on that guitar must have started a few months earlier. So, all the evidence seems to say it was one of the last of the Ontarios. Saweeeet!
