Who wants to be the first to shoot this guy. :ROTF:
Repeat after me. Neck thru is just as good as bolt on. Especially with a scalloped heel and its about 800 bucks less.
The short answer? Cause I didn't want this guitar to be a neck thru.
As far as the neck I think it has to have been a new neck, I don't know for sure. It doesn't look like it was glued, there is a huge color variation in the koa on the neck but I think thats just the two piece construction. If you look at the close up of the back you can sorta see what I mean. Near as I can tell though they had to make a new neck.
BANG! ... my thoughts exactly - scalloped neckjoin and bolt-on neck would be my preference. I don't actually like the look of the neckthru either - I often wish my WRMG had a scalloped neck heel.

Congrats on the DA Chris... sorry for all the hassles in getting your guitar though. You were great to deal with even though the situation wasn't perfect!
Let me know if I can be of more help,
Matt

You don't have to shoot me but if your putting out that kind of money for a Custon Shop why cheap out and get a bolt on neck. That like getting a sport car with a 1.8 liter motor in it.
You just don't get it, although cost was a factor, that really had little to do with it. This guitar is supposed to be a bolt on. I had several custom shop guitars I came up with, this guitar was always intended to be a bolt on. I have a neck thru archtop warrior that I had specced out (sadly that will never happen cause of the insane price increases) and that was always meant to be a neck thru. When I came up with these ideas for customs its a matter of what I want to achieve. This is (I believe) the first bolt on death angel to come from the custom shop. Of the three custom guitars I hope to get only one is a neck thru. The Death Angel is a bolt on jackson. The Archtop warrior a neck thru Jackson and the Charvel Exotic is the third. Since its a Charvel that would obviously be a bolt on.
Your analogy is so flawed I don't know where to begin, if you think a bolt on guitar is inferior to a neck thru guitar in any way then I think you need to do some research. Some of the most famous guitars and guitarists have played bolt-on. By choice I might add. Its purely a matter of preference. And on this guitar there was no reason to pay an extra 800+ for a neck thru.
Also if the guitar had been neck thru? I'd probably still be waiting for it if they had to redo the entire guitar.
This guitar probably cost less than you might think, when I ordered this it was prior to any price hikes. The same guitar today would cost at least 3x what it cost me then.

It wasn't ideal what happened but the end result is fine. I'll definitely get from you again Matt if C/J comes to their senses and lowers their prices to close to what they had been.
Fuggem', Its an amazing guitar and almost exactly what you wanted. Its one of a kind and fuckin amazing. Yes, I can say I 'prefer' neckthroughs but I have some great bolt-ons and no problems at all playing at any fret? A great guitar is a great guitar!
Gorgeous guitar ! That is pretty close to my dream custom shop guitar (trans green quilt, gold hardware, string thru, warrior shape, unfinished neck...) I'll be drooling for the next month over that!
That is a way cool guitar even if it is not exactly to your specs.
I kind of like bolt-on my self. I find that neck thru feel kind of cramped at the upper registers for me - especially 24 fret neck thru. For me, a 22 fret bolt-on works great!
And you mentioned that you were disappointed it didn't have the scalloped horn: you can't really scallop an arched horn - you get the arched top with the pseudo-scallop carved into it or the scallop without the archness.
