  • Jackson Dinky #4736

This is a late 80's Ontario Jackson that was in pieces when I picked it up several months ago. No fancy graphic, just good ol' in your face black The neck and body had been separated for a long time. The original J-50C was shot, so I decided to give some Lawrence's a try. An extra J-90C I have is probably getting installed soon tho. It might have had a JE-1200 circuit since the control layout is identical to a Model 4/6, but those are hard to find. It's now wired with RS Guitarworks pots. I swapped the original JT6 with a Schaller that has a brass block. The neck has a thick slab of ebony, and is really nice to play. It's my first USA Jackson - and I'm glad it's back in one piece Here's some pics:

I haven't seen a harness by itself on the bay in a while, but when one shows up, I'll seriously think about it. Not sure if it will be worthwhile to put it fully back to stock tho -

Beautiful....Although the third knob is almost a giveaway, to tell for sure if it had a JE1200, look inside the electronics cavity for the battery clip screw hole.

very clean guitar, a to the point shred machine.....and a very thick peice-o-ebony on that neck...

with the black tuners and the chrome nut, i think it would look cool as hell if the trem was chrome, would be a nice contrast to the black vol/tone knobs

The cavity plate has a battery clip affixed to it with a piece of really thin 2-sided tape. When I purchased the body, the J200s were not installed, there was a EMG SA in the mid position, and the J50 in the bridge. Nothing was wired tho and the midboost circuit was long gone. I don't know if the clip is original or part of the failed EMG install.

I have the original JT6 - but I wanted to put the extra schaller I had to good use. As soon as I come across a another chrome OFR, I'll definitely give it a try. It's interesting that it had a JT6, but the chrome schaller nut appears stock. Thx for the compliments

with that being said, i did notice that the screws that hold the floyd nut down go through the neck like the old days, did this neck come with guitar?

i thought they stoped doing that in 86 or 87......

From what I've seen Jackson would have screwed the battery clip to the wall of the electronics cavity. I wouldn't think they would use double stick tape???? Maybe this guitar didn't have a JE1200 after all? Is it possible that the third knob hole was added by the person who had installed the EMGs?

Yup - the work order number on the neck and on the body match.

I'm just about certain that the 3rd hole for a control is original - the black paint covers inside of it, like the other two (well, up until I needed to widen the two to fit RS pots). Also, the brass shield is cut for it as well and it appears identical to the others. Here's a pic -

Now that I've seen the pic, this battery clip could be original although I've never seen it this way....Just wondering, since you have the Work Order number, can you get any more details on this guitar from Jackson Custom Shop?

I'm pretty sure I've read here on the JCF that it's not possible to get older work order info now - maybe this is just the case for San Dimas models? I've got this pic of the neck route, not sure what VMT3M means (maybe volume, mid-boost, tone, something?). The neck had the work-order number labeled in the area where the truss-rod nut is.

The battery clip is original my 87 is just like that. The chrome nut could be too they did that a lot.The VMT 3M means vol, tone, mid boost,3 mini switchs so the 3rd hole is correct.I would leave it just as you have it.I'll bet it sounds great with the BL's.RS guitarworks kits are the tits good choice.Just installed a kit in my new mutt project.
Thats is one of the best looking SD plated Jacksons I've seen in a while.I want it!!!!

Does anybody have a list of all these feature abbreviations used by Charvel Jackson?
