  • DK-1 vs PRS

How are the quality in comparison between these 2 guitars. I know I'm being a little vague on the PRS guitars, but something that would be comparable in price to a new DK-1.

I'm not so much concerned for versatility, as richness in tone and articulation.

    Any thoughts?

    Not even close.
    PRS.

Just about any PRS will eat a DK-1. Craftmanship, materials, attention to detail, etc.
Having said that.... they are totally different animals aimed at two different crowds. Which PRS would you pair agaisnt a DK-1, SE PRSi? Paul Allender SE?

Well, I'd say only a PRS Custom 22 or one of the better standards upwards would be a match or more than a match for a DK1. The budget PRS guitars are absolute garbage.

I have a 96 Custom 22 and its just about the best guitar I've played, sound wise. Although I have big hands and the Jackson necks suit me more.

As Joe said, it would depend what PRS we're talking about here but for the same price as a DK1 you're looking at a PRS Standard which is pretty even or slightly better in my opinion. If you got a standard and put some Dragon 1 pups in there it would kill. The best pups ever.

Otherwise save up and get a Custom 22. Its worth it.
All men play on 10. Never gonna turn down again.

When considering price, the DK-1 is FAR superior. For the money, I don't think you can get a USA PRS for that, can you?! You can buy a used DK-1 for under a grand on eBay, so the comparable bolt on neck PRS (CE models?) would be tough to find that cheap, I believe.

i dont know i played a couple of the import SE's $600 range & they are by far some of the nicest imports ive played. the fret work was far nicer than alot of USA made guitars. Far better than any USA gibson ive played in the past few yrs.

i don't have a DK1, but i do have a couple PC-1s and a CE mahogany PRS (i am NOT a fan of PRS set necks, and i wanted a PRS in metallic copper). they are different animals completely. the PC-1s and the PRS feel like the same quality. one doesn't feel "cheaper" than the other. both look stellar, paly amazingly and sound Godly. i guess it depends on what look you are after. to me, the PC-1 nd the PRS have a "modern classic" look. the DK-1 is more of a "metal" looking guitar whereas the PRS is "modern classic".

Man, these couldn't be two more different options. Weird comparison.

A PRS vs. a LP, maybe. But PRS vs DK1 is like apples and oranges.

I know they're very different guitars. What I'm looking for is a guitar that sounds huge, has very broad and musical tone, and lets everyone of the little nuances in my playing come thru. I'm a Jackson man thru and thru..and love their looks...but I'm wondering if a more "upscale" guitar would be worth the extra $$$ for what I described above. Yeah, I know Eddie can rip on a MF $99 special...I have a quality cab, quality head, all quality pedals and cables (George L's). Just wanting to see if I need to upgrade the ole guitar...

It sounds to me like you'd probably find a `90s DK1 more to your liking than the current version. I realize that a lot of people like EMGs and feel strongly about having 24 frets versus 22, but the old DK1s (especially those with the really nice figured tops) appealed to me more.

                      A PC1 would be a closer comparison, or maybe a `90s AT1.

I'm a huge Jackson fan too but if you're looking for something with a massive dynamic range I would suggest a PRS Custom 22 with Dragon 1's.

Split coils, phased coils, fat bass response, great mids, sustain, soaring highs..... Jacksons look great and sound great but god damn this guitar keeps suprising me.
Its the fucking tits I tells ya.

But the PC-1 is a $2200 axe.. not the in the $' range of the DK-1?
It should be much nicer..imo it is! I would say that the PC-1 is almost
                          equal to any $3K PRS.
