  • Dk1 vs DK2M

I have a chance to pick up a DK1 for a good price, but I would have to sell my DK2M. Do you think it is a good trade? I don't know what to do. I like the maple board on the import, but as you all know nothing beats the ebony on a USA Jackson. Is it worth the upgrade for the ebony, OFR, and better electronics on the USA? I don't want to pay out the extra money when the DK2M is almost as good.

I would say it would come down to how many of those Almighty Dollars we were talking about to upgrade.

$1000. I'm not sure it's worth that much.

If you don't have a problem walking away from the deal, I'd offer $850 or so, assuming excellent condition.

Well, it will be a $1000 plus my DK2M. Maybe I should just keep the import and put in new PUs and an OFR. Is it worth a $1000 extra for the USA? The DK1 is brand new.

I'd personally look for a used one in good condition rather than buying brand new 1000$ sounds a little bit much to me, considering you can already get yourself a used DK-1 with that kind of money..

One thing though is location - are you in the USA?

Yes I am. Right outside St. Louis, MO. I could just put new PUs and an OFR in the DK2M and save even more money and keep what I have. I could probably live without the ebony. Is the OFR a good fit in the DK2M?

I had dk1's for years. Bought a dk2m ,dropped an ofr and its the same axe minus the $$$. I compared them for weeks and couldn't justify the xtra $$$ just for an ebony board and USA on the headstock. Played as good as the dk1 and with the seymours and ofr it was a USA to me. Bought 2 more dk2m's ,so got 3 dk2m's for 1 dk1. I'm all about playability and they were the same to me.

There you go, man. Thanks a million. That was pretty much what I was looking for. I can't justify the extra cost either, but I do love the ebony. lol
