  • My new Jackson.....enjoy

    Hi guys,
It's been a while since I have posted up. Here is my newest aquisition. I have wanted this guiatr for 4 years. It was found in a pawn shoppe in a suburb of Ft.Worth, Texas. In Burleson, home of Kelly Clarkson by a friend of mine grungy, rode hard and out away wet.

It is a San Dimas plated # 3744 1987 Ontario Custom Shop USA Jackson. The graphic is front and back. It is 99% original w/Kahler Pro. It has a EMG 81 now but I have what I think is the original pup. A cream and black Duncan. The only thing condition wize is the maple neck has a mildewie greenish hue to the neck and finger board. I have tried everything from synthetic steel wool and mineral spirits, lemon oil, wood soap. It's in there and not coming out. It plays like butter, just a killer guitar. What do ya think?

That is sweet. I love a guitar with a Kahler. What kind of finish is that? It looks like some kind of black on black tiger stripe or something. Nice!

Looks sweet. To get the dirt out, try a little rubbing alcohol on a cotton cloth or swab.

The graphic is a hybrid of a charcoal and black bengal tiger/camo somesuch. It's the Super Srat body in Alder. The graphic is painted on both sides which is cool, sometimes the graphic is just on the front and the back is solid.

I agree, the Kahler was my first exposure to a licking trem. It was on a Charvel Model 3 in 1986. I still have a 1986 Model 1a that is mint as well. This Kahler is smooth as silk. I love it.

I'm right with you on that. I learned on a 1986 Jackson with a Kahler. I just can't get used to recessed Floyd's.

This stuff will work wonders on your mildew problem:http://www.woodcraft.com/family.aspx?familyid=5535

Get some fine sandpaper and 0000 steel or synthetic steel wool and some Birchwood Casey Gun Oil and oil 'er up after bleaching. Buff out the cured oiled neck with the 0000.

When bleaching, try the bleach in a spot not easily seen to see how much mildew is being removed. Brush it on and wipe it off. The bleach can be diluted with water to make it less aggressive.

                    Nice Grab!

Sweet idea..... But after looking at a lot of early to mid-80's Charvels and Jacksons a lot of those maple necks have a lot of the same kind of used look. I think I might roll with it with the patina in it for a bit.

I have had many Floyd Rose'd guitars in my day (I am 43 and have played in cover bands in the Dallas area for 20 years, my current gig is 14 years strong) and I have always preferred the Kahler to the FR. Most will say the FR is their choice but personally like the Kahler, it is way smother IMO. I can dive bomb the hell out of this one and it never goes out of tune. I have to work on my wammy chops though, I have been using hard tail guitars for a decade now.
