1986 SanDimas Soloist

So i havent talked with my guy about the Soloist yet. Can you tell em about this Shannon you mentioned. Like i said before i dont know alot about Jackson YET. Im still wondering if how much i should talk this guy down. The most i can find someone paid for a used San Dimas Solist is $1200 but that was awile ago. Most people say around 800-900. There was one recently on Harmony Central he was asking 1000 so im thinking i dont really wanna pay more than 1100 for this one. Its used not mint but not beat up no paint chips minor scratches. It seems though, from what i can find that 1100 may be a bi high anyway.

The last SD Soloist I got off Ebay was $1175. It was a Kahler one. I didnt mind paying the price because the US$ is so worthless, it was a good deal. Maybe its hard to see the effect of your dollar's value in your own country but outside it, its clear as day...........

I have an 86 brown back with a black and yellow crackle flat top/binding and I gave $650.00.Mine has a Kahler as well.

Yep, it was mine...J05XX (Black).
My feel here as someone who buys/sells the San Dimas stuff with some frequency is that a San Dimas made Soloist Custom (binding/ebony/sharks) is worth (in 8+ condition) $1000 to $1350. (no graphic)
The similar Floyded ones sell for about $200-$250 more.
Add graphics and the price gets allot more subjectional.
The pink one on HC I almost bought at $1000 until I was told it needed a complete refret. With that guitar having the nibs over the edge of the frets that would run about $250 for a good job and frankly I just didn't see it as "that great" of a deal when you factored in all of the issues.
As for the red one on Ebay, I too am watching that and suspect that the opening price is more than fair, but don't see it fetching much higher... if it gets a bid with it being this close to Christmas.
I hope that helps with your decision.
As a side opinion...the older 1983-1986 stuff seems to be getting harder to find and will get more expensive as time passes as they have a feel and presence that is best described as magical ...just my .02 cents

Jaakko's looks like a quality piece. Look at the binding, how it has "nibs" on the fret ends, just like a Gibson. A lot of work went into it.

Those "nibs" are just a waste of fret length. A lot of work yeah, but to me it just degrades the guitar's playability for the sake of some hardly noticeable esthetic detail, & it doesn't even look good imo.


And yeah $1500 is a bit high for that soloist, even if it's brand new.

I was going to go in and offer $1075 to this lady. Before i could though she came back to me and came down to $1200. Im going to say yes more than likely. Does this sound like more of a fair price?

$1200 is still on the high side, but it all really boils down to how badly you want it.
Offer her $1k and negotiate from there.
If you REALLY want it, $1200 is high, but not absurd.

give her 1125 and keep 75 when i get him paid.
and let me pay him over the next however long so i think im going to roll with it

That's cool. I paid $1200 for the last SD Soloist I had, about a year ago. I bought it from the same guy who has the red SD Soloist up on eBay right now. He's a nice guy and easy to deal with. Anybody who thinks they're going to get a SD Soloist now in any kind of decent condition for under $1100 is probably dreaming. If it's a beater, you probably would, though.

Correct, people in Canada buying with US$ are paying 65% less than they had to pay 7 or 8 years ago, so a 65% growth in prices in US$ is offset by the currency decline...........

MY 86 does not have the nibs and quite frankly I like it without them.I have had many L.P's with them and never really liked them because they rub on the inside of my hand while playing.Kind of annoying.
