  • USA Soloist help

    Hello

I have recently seen a used soloist for 800$ in GC.

    It was all black
    No Inlays
    Reverse headstock

    Here is a picture.

I cannot gain more info ATM, but I would like some opinions and advice
    my questions are:
    1. What wood is it made out of?
    2. What year is it?
    3. Is it "worth" it for the price?

    Thank you.

I initially thought that was an SL2, but the 22 frets and the rev head dispute that. I seem to remember them doing a small run for Guitar Centre or someone, so it could be one of those.

No idea of the wood, but poplar would seem a safe bet. I'd guess it was from around 1997 or so, and the price seems pretty good to me....
Popular is not the same as good
Rare is not the same as valuable
Worth is what someone will pay, not what you want to get

This is kind of similar, but there are a few differences as well (notably reversed head, proper floyd, non recessed trem)

            Well imo it's not a soloist, it's a Dr-2

            Is it a bolt-on or neck-thru?

            If it's a Dr-2 it's overpriced

Yeah, that's a very good point - Looking at the 1997 catalogue, it's a DR2. There's me being dumb and just assuming it was neck thru cos it was described as a Soloist!

It is a DR-2. A little overpriced and not a very good USA model IMHO. It has a JT-580 and not an OFR (which most Jackson USAs have and have had for the last 10 years or so). I had one and it did not play that well.

Also, here we go again with the term Soloist erroneously being used on non-neck-thru dinky guitars, mainly thanks to Warmoth

Yep, looks like a DR-2 as well. I use to own a red one. I liked it. I'd like to have another sometime. I just don't like the reverse headstocks...

                  It is poplar...

Now the Soloist in the link is mine and it's a Soloist. But I have yet to see another 22 fret one like it...
                  I'm angry because you're stupid
