I've also owned many axe's in my time. I've sold off all the one's that aren't "me", so to speak. I've come to realize that my favorite guitars are "superstrats". Preferably a neck thru (love the smooth heel) but can live with bolt on, single or 2 hum's (don't like single coils at all), 24 Jumbo's, recessed Floyd, Sperzel locking tuners (I know it's overkill/un-necessary with a locking nut, but it makes string changes so much easier IMO), 25.5" or 25" scale. I prefer a wild graphic or just a solid color rather than the flame/quilt tops. I prefer a toggle over a blade switch. Everything else I'm pretty flexible with (nut width, fingerboard wood, neck/body wood etc...)

You are kinda like me, except that I haven't owned a lot of guitars and I like bursts/quilts/ solid colors (can't stand graphics). Oh, and after playing a squier for more then 1 year I hate bolts.
To be honest I haven't played enough different guitars to know what I like yet. The KV2 I have on order will be the first 24 fret guitar I have played. I don't even know what kind of pickups I like yet. But then again I have only been playing guitar for 2 years.
My King V has a JB in the bridge paired with a SH1N in the neck, which is the same as what they are putting in the KV2T's now. That's a great tried-and-true versatile combination. Note that my wings are poplar, though (still very close to alder). Oh, and I'd bag the locking tuners unless you are going for that fast string change thing.

Resurrecting a dead thread. See no reason to start another on this topic.
I've been thinking about this very topic for a bit now, as I've been into electric guitars for some time now. Seems like a good reason to revive the discussion. Though I'm not too well versed in guitar tech, I do have a little bit of an idea as to what I prefer.
I've not played any weird, if you will, body shaped guitars for extended periods of time. Though I may own a Warlock, I haven't played it much. I've always liked V's, since my biggest influence, Schenker plays one, but any I've tried just don't feel right. Mind you, they were Gibsons.
I guess I'm a traditionalist and as such, prefer single/double cutaway, hourglass shapes. The two axes I prefer to play in my arsenal are the old BC Rich Seagull and the Charvel Model 4; Both very different in execution.
I guess mine would be a hybrid of the two;
- thick carved and arched mahogany body{I'm open on various traditional shapes}
- satin finished maple neck with Strat headstock shape
- ebony fretboard with dragonhead inlays; A full dragon shooting flames from the 12th fret up to the end of the neck!{That'd be sweeeeeeeet!}
- neck through construction
- metallic candy apple red body and headstock with black binding
- neck dimensions and scale as the BC Rich
- stop tailpiece and bridge
- all back components
- two humbucker{Nothing too powerful. Want to hear the wood qualities}
- 4 knobs: 2 vol, 1 tone, 1 boost.{Boost like on the Charvel. Great for solos!}
- 3 toggles: 3 way on the top horn, 2 minis for coil tapping situated ala Model 4.
Needless to say; obviously outfitted with the best electronics, components and best woods. I do like the shapes of Warlocks and Mockingbirds though. Kind of traditional with a twist!
Hmmmmm.....I think I got something like this coming in the mail??!?!??
Cheers.
