  • New to the Forum - check out my '87 Soloist

Meet J4045, a Ferrari Red JSC1 (this was the model name back then, I still have the price list, SC stands for Soloist Custom), ordered and build started in 1987, delivered early 1988 - it's 20 years old this month! I would have had an earlier model, but prior to 87, all I could have was a Kahler bridge, which put me off going for one prior to that. I opted for non active pickups, and a regular 5 way selector instead of the mini toggles that were popular back then, the little switch takes out one of the bridge coils.

At the time, reverse headstocks were unheard of, at least in UK, although there are plenty around now. We (the shop dude and I) thought we'd invented it. I can still clearly remember the waiting time (close to 6 months), and being told one Friday lunchtime it had arrived and I could go get it on the Saturday!

The guitar is in as near pristine condition as I could keep it, given it's been 20 years and gigged a fair amount, no buckle rash at all.

Gimme a few more days and I'll have pics of an RR too.

    Welcome.
    Cool guitar.
Now ditch that crappy pot metal JT-6 and put a Floyd on it and it will be perfect.

I tried that many years ago, but the pillar spacing wasn't exactly the same IIRC. I'm doing some guitar work over next week or two, and might just try again now that you mentioned it!

The spacing should be fine. Many here have dropped in a Floyd on JT-6 posts.
A forum member here Budman (Dave) makes Floyd friendly replacement posts for JT-6 to Floyd conversions.

JT6 / Floyd Rose Posts These are for the early Jacksons and Charvels that came stock with the JT6 Tremolo. The pivot angles match the Original Floyd Rose so you'll get more "range" when diving. These are heat treated and then a black oxide is applied as a rust preventative. A light coat of oil is recommended.

I say keep it stock. You've taken good care of it for this long.

The funny thing you say is that you waited 6 months for it. I don't know how long the wait times are currently for a custom axe, but I think it's a lot longer now.

I love my new Bengal SL2H, but it'd like to see how it compares to the older Soloists.
