Awesome guitar. Get a cover for the electronics cavity! I'd be a little scared removing the sticker, but I'd probably try. Wouldn't do any more than that, though.
Clean it up and get a cover for the electronics . A refin will probably drop the price at least a 1/3. These SD guitars were all custom shop orders and hand made so each is unique.
Take the stickers off. Carefully! And, maybe it's just the flash, but that bridge doesn't look original? Funky electronics route, too.
You are correct about the bridge. That is a fixed kahler that I put on there when I got tired of the trem. I have since changed it back to a gold kahler trem with the matching lock nut.
Good eye!
The route for the electronics is original and the only reason I don't have a cover is I was lazy and didn't put it back on about 15 yrs ago and then lost the damn thing! I'm still kicking myself over that.
Yeah, have Budman bust out an anodized aluminum cavity cover, clean up the stickers, and leave it alone! It is majestic as-is. If you are worried about dollar value and future collectibility any kind of irreversible modification/restoration will kill it.
If you bought this new and all that play wear was inflicted by you I am sure you'd regret it at some point, anyway. What a great instrument with a great owner's story.
Keep it forever, I say! It is a part of your personal history!
Thanks for sharing. I love when these kinds of guitars and stories pop up.
