See I've never played an SL2MAH. I'd love to. I'm a King V guy myself. If ever Jackson puts out a KV2MAH I'll be jumping on it.

The KV2T is all mahogany with a short scale. That's about as close as you're going to get for now.

The closest thing J/C made to a Les Paul is a 750XL with a fixed bridge. I have one and I have 4 LPs. The 750XL isn't the same sound, but it's not hugely far off. It would be easier to compare if I had similar pickups in these axes.

If you want neck through mahogany and short scale you could also try to find a used sls which is my favorite jackson. I've been waiting for the right 750xl but just haven't been lucky enough to grab one yet. The sl2h-mah is actually my only 25.5 scale guitar as the rest are all 24.75.

Being an owner of both a LP Custom and an sl2h-mah I can tell you that they sound very different from each other. To me, my soloist doesn't sound as aggressive as my LP - it has a smoother/warmer sound to it. I've played a few alder soloists and a couple of dinkys in my day and I'm not sure about the MAH's sound being 'thicker', but I feel it is definitely warmer. Like the other have said here, the construct (set neck vs. neck-thru, fixed vs. floyd, single cut vs double, scale, maple cap thickness, etc.) is totally different so they won't sound alike - even if you used the same pickups. The sl2h-mah is a sweet guitar (LOVE mine) and I'm sure you could coax some DiMeola tones out of it, but the 2 guitars are different animals. If you want the LP sound, you gotta play an LP.

Tell about it. The only thing that's kept me from buying one was lack of the trem. Sorry, I'm just a sucker for dives.

Thanks that actually quite helps, wanna get that early meola sound but something unique aswell. Sounds like the sl2-mah would probably fit that quite well unless the swee-tone would be a better fit?

I have a Charvel 750xl it's as close to a Les Paul as a charvel/jackson can get. It's sound great, I like it more than the SL2 but it's not a Les Paul sound, in high gain mode it's got the low end but clean the les paul is warmer, just, well, you know a les paul.

Given that Al DiMeola himself plays a PRS nowadays, you'd probably get closer to his current sound with an SL2H-MAH than a Les Paul.
