what's up with the Custom Shop these days ? I'm looking around for a new guitar and I'd like a scalloped neck. I'm really interested in the Fender Malmsteen model. However, I'd love to have another Rhoads back. So I'd be interested in the original shaped Rhoads and a scalopeed neck. I'd prefer Loureiro's neck, which is scalopped and at the 12th fret up to the 24 or 27. Wil the custom shop do that ?

The custom shop should be able to do that for you. I have an 1989 Rhoads with factory scalloped 12-22 frets:

Rudy that scalloping looks great with the binding! I've not seen that before.

It plays great but to tell you the truth I notice no difference when playing it as compared to my other non-scalloped Jacksons. This one happens to be my main player Rhoads. A friend of mine ordered it new in 1989 and in 2001 decided to sell it, he's more of a Strat style player so he kept his Soloist and sold me this one The only thing I changed on it was the pickups as I'm not a fan of the stock Jackson logo'd pickups. Its different but I don't think I would pay the extra $ for scalloped frets personally.

have you ever played a full scalloped neck ? I always hear people say it makes a good difference, but then again it's only comments I read on boards.

I've never played a scalloped neck. But i've always wondered what the advantage is. I mean, you don't touch the fretboard wood much anyway when playing.

The idea of a scalloped board is so you can get morecontact on the string for better control. It realy has nothing to do with speed. Speed is all in how you do with it. It wont make you play faster if your not Yngwie. I've played full scalloped boards. (Yngwie strats) and i didnt really notice a differance in the way i play. Other then the more control thing. But if you press too hard on the string it will go sharp. Which is what most peopl edo at first. Until they get the touch right. The 12th fret and up i can understand cus the frets can get pretty close together so it just gives ya better contact with the string up there.

Jacksonfreak is correct, if you push too hard you will go sharp. I never had a problem doing that as I don't think I push down on the fret that hard naturally. When playing the scalloped frets it doesn't feel any different to me than a standard neck. I have not played fully scalloped necks before, only the 12-22 frets.

I submitted a request in for a custom jackson two+ weeks ago and the authorized dealer I went through still hasn't heard from the custom shop on how long it will take and the cost.

I'm waiting also build sheet from Custom Shop. Matt send my spec sheet two weeks ago.
