You're making an assumption having never actually seen it. Matter of fact, so am I. But I can see the pictures provided and if a guitar is in that piss poor cosmetic condition, it makes me wonder about the rest of the guitar. For instance, what condition is the neck in? Is it bowed, twisted, etc? How are the electronics?

Just because it's a USA made Jackson doesn't mean it's not a USA turd.

You have a really good point. I could care less if it's a USA JAckson or not. My KV pro is better than my KV2 for sure. Better materials hands down.

If the refret was done good I think 900$ is a decent price for it. I personally don't care for the dings (yeah they lower the value but I mean how much? they are only cosmetic..) and the screws are easily replaceable
I recently had an RR1T in the classifieds way cleaner than that KV1, white with pinstripes, with EMGs fitted, for 1100.00 shipped. I got two nibbles on it.

So where is the line between "a good price for a USA jackson" and "overpriced?" I'm guessing its a pretty thin line if 900 for a chipped up, dented KV1 is fair, but 1100.00 for cleaner RR1T with a pickup upgrade is a cold fish.

And yes, I understand that the mustaine-factor of this guitar makes it more collectable for some people. But it really offers nothing more than a standard KV2. Less, actually, since most people (I didn't say all) want a Floyd on their guitar.

To me the line is 1k. 1k for a used USA Jackson is a good price. More according to its finish, shape etc. Usually KVs and KEs go for more than that because they are not as common as RRs and Soloists..

If this guitar was in good shape and the seller was asking 1300 bucks for it, probably nobody would think it's overpriced. Now because it has some dents on it offering the seller half price doesn't make sense to me..

I've seen a couple USAs go for 600-650 bucks. One of 'em that I remember had a broken into pieces headstock, one of 'em was the shotgun soloist etc..

About your RR1t you just didn't have luck imo

That guitar must sound killer, judging by the amount it was played. I would get details on the refret though - get the name of the luthier, and give him a call. I would bet he will remember the dog-eared KV1.

It is all about dog-eared versus dogwood. People don't play the shit out of crappy sounding guitars - and most dogwood I have played sits in minty fresh never touched condition, little better than fretted firewood. That thing has been played to death, which most likely means some damn sweet sounding wood.

900.00 is a steal for a great guitar. Just think of the dings as a relic job... which would cost a bundle... it looks like a well-worn battle-axe. That things screams mojo.

I would pay 1200 for it, but that is me. I have been dying for a KV1 for a couple of years.

I'd say the seller can easily sell it for $900. True, it is in bad condition but come on, it's a KV1 for 900 chalatchoes!
Go for it, do refin and you have a great guitar for little money.

As long as the headstock has not been broken I would be all over it. I have just finished a refinish on my KV2 it was well worth it.I have been looking for a KV1 or a Pro for a long time and have yet to find either at that price that was not totally junk. Go for it!

As my old man would say, "It's rock and roll". This thing probably rocks like a mother fucker. Finding a KV1 to begin with is rare enough, let alone one for under $1k. Personally, I'd feel comfortable having some sort of agreement (in writing) that I could play it for a few days and if it's an irreparable mess then I get my money back.

Of course, you could always get a KV2 or RR in much better condition from one of the dealers around here for a great price and know what you're getting.
