  • Just snaged a KV1

Being an avid Megadeth fan and a lover of all things V I have hoped to come across a KV1 for a long time. Early today I recieved a reply to a craigslist posting and spent the whole day waiting in anticipation. After an hour drive, I found her. It was in great shape, just needing a good setup and more importantly a cleaning. After wiping it off I was plesantly suprised that the paint job was still in great shape, with only a small chip on one of the wings. It is blackish grey with metalic flake finish. This guitar is definitely not alder its got some mass to it and has frets that have seen very little use. I'm interested in what year this was made in and what locking tuners did the guy I bought this from replace the LSR's with? Thank god for drumers who hord guitars

I'll check my s/n list at home and post an estimate of the build date tomorrow.

Nice score.... It seems that few of us have stumbled upon these lately.

Should be a 98, same years as mine. As far as the body wood, it will be either poplar or alder, most likely alder for that year. Either way, poplar and alder are quite similar. The original tuners were probably not LSRs, since my serial number is lower than yours and mine has standard tuners.

Very cool. Those look like Schaller locking tuners.

maybe older ones? The back is slightly bulkyer than the modern ones I have on my KV2T. They do seem to have the same mechanism though.

                          Nice mate!

I always loved the KV-1. I almost got me one of the natural Korina ones. Kicked myself ever since for passing on that trade.
