  • Custom shop guys..

    Hey guys,

I've been designing a custom shop idea for myself for a while now. Now a guy I know said Jackson's custom shop prices have gone threw the roof. He said he went to order a custom shop and was shocked by the price. He said he ordered a King V with a reverse neck. EMG 81 and 85 pickups, a Floyd Rose and he wanted it a nice metallic green. He said the price quote came back at $6400.

So my question is, you guys with custom shops..how much did they cost you and what were they (PLEASE POST PICS OF THE GUITAR(S).

Also, I'm thinking of ordering (one day) a RR. I want it black with a picture of Randy on it (I supply the picture), a Duncan Dimebucker in the bridge and a Duncan Jazz in the neck. Also, a vintage trem and gold hardware. How much do you guys estimate it will cost?

    Thanks!

First off - just for curiosity, where in BC are you?

Secondly, anything with a one-off graphic will be virtually impossible to 'guess' at, especially without detailed specs on the 'build' of the guitar. However, 2008 prices have come back down a lot from 2007, which is when I assume your mate has his guitar quoted....

Anything with a one-off graphic will be expensive, cos they're likely to use Dan Lawrence, and while his prices are fine, the markup makes for some pretty expensive paint....

          Ok, thanks!

Heres another one of my custom shop plans. What do you guys think this would cost?

A RR thats black with (original Rhoads styled) gold pinstripes. Seymour Duncan pick ups. Vintage trem (like the original Rhoads). Gold hardware. 2 tone knobs, 2 volume knobs, Alder wood body with a flamed maple 3/4" top. Regular Jackson headstock with a gold Jackson logo, 3 way toggle switch located on the top of the body (like the original Rhoads), engraved truss rod cover, Grover tuners, 24 frets, rectangle block inlays (again, like the original Rhoads).

So basically, its exactly like the original Rhoas but in black with gold pinstripes.

Why have the flame top if you're gonna paint it black? I know there's a difference in tone but you could get the same effect with a plain top, if it's really that big of a deal.

My guess is that if they'd agree to make it (they can be touchy about variations on the Rhoads' guitars), that guitar would be around $4500 USD or so by the time it's been discounted.

Also, Randy's original only had 22 frets so having 24 would either mean 2 more 'difficult to get to' frets, or the body would be moved back from the nut, both of which would change the look. Whatever, the pickups would be closer together.

Finally, in case you hadn't seen it, there's already a 'concorde' in black with pins....

Good point regarding the flamed maple. And regarding the 22/24 fret thing, I guess its a good idea to keep with the 22....pardon my stupidness haha, I dont really know much about the type of woods, what happens with 24 frets etc etc etc.

Wow, thats awesome! That is actually really weird...its EXACTLY how I want my custom shop..and the weirder thing is..I've never seen that guitar before!

Just ordered CS KV about a month ago from Matt's Music Center. Everything has gone very well so far...just got work order from Jackson factory. Matt's Music Center is always great place to deal with.

Unless you took the photo of Rhoads, it won't make it as a graphic. Jackson will no longer do any artwork that involves copyrights.

You cannot get the block inlays, either, because it's "trademarked" to Randy's Concorde and the LTD models.

The switch location....maybe....but the 4 knobs should be fine, though the Concorde was wide enough to hold 4 knobs, while the current Rhoads is not, so there again you have a body issue being too close to the LTD and Concorde, which they won't do.

About how much have the prices come down? When I saw the 2007 price lists, I was stunned.

It's not so much a true reduction, just basically that the Masterbuilt charge has gone, so many features are now 'free' i.e. non-recessed trems, maple boards etc....

Buy yourself a used Jackson to your specs... dismantle it. Ship the wood
body and neck to www.learnguitars.com and have Mike Learn graphic it
for you! This way, your probably only out about $1600 for a great USA
RR1 or Soloist...plus about $900 to $1K on Mikes end. You get your own
custom graphic on a great Jackson for around $2400.00 And your happy!

                              i agree completely

or you could go with Shamray in Russia if the copyright restrictions prevent the order of a Condcorde, like another JCF member is currently doing
