How come there are no USA Soloists with a hum single hum pickup configuration?
    I mean
    Floyd

    24 frets
    neck though

    Wouldn't that be pure pwnege?

I think that everyone has a different idea of what pure pWNage would be..

A lot of people don't like middle singles because they get in the way while picking.

But jackson has the SL1/3 with a middle sc. Why now a guitar w/ a humbucker in the neck?

You can get pretty much the set of usable tones from a dual humbucker setup with 5 way switch as you can from 2H 1SC with a 5 way. A nice variation on the 2H w/5 way is a bridge humbucker and neck humbucking single coil with 5 way.

because it sucks having a single coil in the way of your pick, and nobody's ever seen with a 5-way switch in the center position?

If the pickup get in your way then you have really bad picking technique !

or you've raised the pickup way too high because you're trying to make a weak-ass single coil sound balanced between two stonkin' humbuckers. Solution? Remove the weakest link - dump the single

That not necessarily true. It all depends on how high the pickup is, where you normally pick the strings at (along their length), and how deep you pick.

Please bear in mind that there is no right or wrong way to pick as long as you can play what you want to and get the tone that makes that possible.

I don't think the "hard to strum" argument is valid, SL1/3's also have a mid sc, but no one cmplains

I've never had a use for a middle single coil. If I bought a guitar that had one, I'd lower it or remove it altogether.

I occasionally hit the middle pickup on the guitars I have but it's not enough of a problem to bother me. I like the quack you get in position 2 and 4 on those guitars, especially my Strats.
