DK1 Dinky vs. SL2H Soloist

Hello everyone. I am ready to purchase a USA Jackson. I have narrowed it down to the DK1 Dinky and the SL2H soloist. I know the soloist is nicer because of the through neck, but the Dinky is a little less in price, plus already has EMG's. I do not dislike bolt on necks, obviously my strat has one. If I got the soloist, I would change the Duncans to EMG's. So in essence, the Dinky would be what I want out of the box, and cost me about $400 less after it is all done.

Is there a major difference in sound between the Dinky and a Soloist w/ EMG's? If so, is it very noticeable? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

There is definitely a difference in sound between bolt-on and neck-through. Some people prefer the bolt-on sound, others prefer the neck-through; one is not "nicer" than the other.

The neck shape is also different between the two. I think the Dinky is a bit thinner.

My advice would be to find a Jackson dealer around you and play the guitars.

Yeah, guitars would sound different - the DK1 is likely to sound a little brighter. The main 'player' difference for me is the different neck profiles: The DK1 has a thinner, flattened D profile whereas the soloist is thicker with a little more curve i.e. a little more C shaped....

Another difference between the two is the SL2H has a painted neck, and the DK1s have the oiled neck. If you have a dealer close by I would try them out.
