  • Got My first Jackson Custom shop!

I just got my first Custom Shop Jackson ever as a Christmas gift. I own a few limited run models. The chlorine SL2H that Online Stage Gear did a while back, and a Trans Purple burst SL2H that Scott at Vwall guitars did a few years back. anyway, I just got this Jackson Soloist custom shop SL1 single humbucker. The Custom features are the birdseye maple neck with the sharkfin inlays. reverse headstock with matching paint job, and single humbucker. the finish is ghost red flames which was a standard USA color some years back. the neck is painted with the birdseye fretboard which is way odd and cool. Its got a Seymour Duncan TB14 in it too. I have never heard one before, all of my soloists have the standard JB in the bridge, and 59 in the neck. (even the limited runs that came with EMG's were swapped out to standard duncans.) the TB14 seems pretty cool. sounds kinda like a JB to me.

one really cool thing is, the Store had some type of Jackson clinic or something, and apparently Grover Jackson was there and autographed some of their custom shop models. Now maybe you can help me with this,...... I was unaware Grover was affiliated with Jackson again. whats up there? or is that a BS story?

anyway, I thoguht you folks might enjoy some pictures of it.

its a difficult guitar to photograph. the pics are kinda dark. I am no pro photographer, I did the best I could.

      Nice.

The fretboard is painted? Or is it natural birdseye maple? I'm confused.

Can't say the MOP matches the maple - ebony fins would look better but that's just me.

Newc! Long time no see! dayum. been years.

the back of the neck is painted like standard soloists, but the fretboard is birdseye maple. cool and odd combo. I like the pearl sharkies on the Maple, its just kinda cool, its totally personal opinion though. alot of folks dont care for it. they like the contrast of darker sharkfins on maple. to each his own though.

Its a fine ride for sure.

+1 for the MOP on the maple.
I think it makes the pearl stand out.

Oh I get it - the back of the neck is painted and the board is birdseye. I thought you were saying the board had a birdseye maple graphic

Makes me wonder if the neck is also birdseye. It would seem odd that someone would order a birdseye maple neck and then have it painted instead of oiled/natural.

Nice score. Fullers had one like this that I always wanted to snag.

that is one sweet guitar. I have not been able to make my mind up whether or not I like the TB14 or custom5. There was a time I thought that pickup was ass kicking and times I really didn't like it. Now you have me wondering what it sounds like on a neckthu with a maple board.

edit: Seems like I saw a picture of grover recently somewhere holding a charvel neck or something

Awesome guitar. Yeah, that sure looks like the one Fuller's had. Might've been a NAMM guitar, IIRC.

                      Congrats!

I just looked long and hard at those pics and I'm sure they don't do that baby justice. A musical instrument created that exquisitely is truly a work of art. The headstock looks killer, the fretboard is magnificent and that red ghost flames paint job looks like it came off a custom bike. Too cool!

Yes, it was from Fullers. According to Fullers, it was a NAMM guitar.

Newc, I think you just came up with a good "Get Rich Slow" scheme for us, Birdseye Maple Graphics for necks.

Then this is probably your guitar. Its not a great shot but this was taken at Summer NAMM in Austin of 2006.
