I know how you feel, man....
As far as I'm concerned he can stay with Dean and play his dots+fins KV copies, and whatever that aborted fetus he "designed". More like "I saw it in my puke". -Newc

Kinda makes a fellow go out and buy yet another one......

Is owning three PC1's really enough or does GAS rear it's ugly head again.....

My trip is ONLY the older Sears headstock versions. Needless to say the "Holy Grail" of all PC1 has to be the first year koa versions. Rumour has it that they stopped making them in late 1997 or early 1998 depending on who you listen to.

The quilted boards certainly to look better in my opinion. Production costs (and in rare cases warranty issues) made for the switch to flamed boards.

Perhaps the ultimate PC1 would have to be one of Phil's own guitars with the signature chunky neck of his dubbed "2 x Phil".

I've played a few and trust me when I say that boy likes 'em thick. Make a Jeff Beck Strat neck feel like an Ibanez Wizard neck.

One of our fellow JCF members owns a few of Phil's original. Perhaps one day I can convince him to sell me one....

Why do we love them? Probably the Phil Collen/Def Leppard connection to some degree. But them again there are board members that have no love for Def Leppard and still love their PC1.

I think it truely is the best bolt on USA made guitar around. Tried a Suhr and a few others and the Jackson won hands down.

The sustainer can be seen as a bit of a gimmick but used wisely it really enhances your playing and tone.

Having owned countless Soloist's, Les Paul's, Stat's and everything else under the sun, My collection now starts and stops with PC1's.

To convince myself to try or even buy anything else is just foolin' myself. It would just collect dust after a few days 'cause I'd only reach for the PC1's

                My two cents!

Damn, the retailer I spoke to lied to me then. I'm gonna go steal all his Jackson/Charvels now

That was one of two on off's as made by Phil's super cool tech Stan "Stas" Schiller.

One was a flat black with a diamond plate pickguard and the other was a Rhino liner (truck bed paint) spray on finish.

If I recall Jackson made a copy of at least one of them to display at a NAMM show a few years back and made no mention or thanks to Stas.

Not very cool of them if you ask me given that HE thought up the concept and built the two of them.

Having said that I think that a fellow JCF member has that guitar in his collection.

Sadly no. I went through every connection with my Fluke multimeter to see if there was any cold solder joints and found none. Funny thing is that the LED lite up when batteries were installed for a split second but did not light up with a jack installed.

I suppose that I could swap the board from my other two knob PC1 to see if its the board that is the culprit but what would that change in terms of real problem solving.

I'm gonna call my local Jackson repair shop and see what if any suggestions they might have for me.

Cross your fingers that (eventually) this unit works as it should because that is too sweet a PC1 to not have a functioning sustainer unit no?

BTW Did anyone ever successfully return a PC1 to Jackson for repairs? I know damm well that they will not sell (nor probably even install for you) a sustainer and or board if one is missing.

But what about just the fact that the one intact is DOA?
