  • Gold Plating on the RR3's

    Hi Guys

So i took my RR3 out of its case and gave it a REAL good clean.

    All nice and shiney now

BUT... there is still some ressidue/ruse on the 2 big V gold plates.

Can i order new ones of these from anywhere? might think about it down the line.

Thanks guys. WIll post some before and after pics

Not wanting to put a downer on anything, but when i first got my RR5 after a few sweaty gigs the gold started to rub off to be more.... silver, i cleaned it regularly but it just kept rubbing off with any contact...then it went green in places! so i replaced all the gold stuff with black hardware.

        anyone else had this happen?

Gold is allegedly the fastest wearing hardware with cosmo not far behind it then black and chrome being the most resiliant...

I suppose it varies between the manufacturers different methods adn your use and sweat...

I know schallers hardware is pretty resiliant ...

I think any flying V plate can be used wd music allparts etc should supply them however budmans stuff is top notch...

Look at any well used Les Paul Custom.

The silver you see under the gold is actually nickel. Parts are nickel plated first before chrome or gold.

You don't want the gold to wear off? Have it clear coated with some sort of clear that won't yellow and won't wear off.

good point. any reason why a protective finish isn't used as standard on new guitars if its a known thing with gold hardware?

I've had my RR5 for 3 years now, and have played it a LOT. It's just now starting to wear a bit around the knobs.
