If I didn't tell you who exactly within Jackson built a particular guitar, any of you guys think you could tell just by playing it? Yeah, I didn't think so
Fact is I have several "pre" and several "post" Fender Jacksons and you simply can not tell the difference in them. Its the same guitars built by the same people just under a larger corporate ownership thats all.

U09 what? Gimme another digit or 2 after the 9. I'm thinking this is about 2000-01, making it Ontario.

No. The purchase was in Oct or Nov 2002.

Yep, Ron is correct. And the move to Corona wasn't till several months into 2003. I think late summer or fall, can't remember for sure. I have a Custom Shop Soloist that I ordered and began in Ontario but was not finished and delivered till about two years later in Corona

Wow, current US Jacksons have been made in Corona for the past 6 years at least?! I didn't it was that long. Somewhere I have an old G mag with Grover giving a tour of his new Ontario facility. When I 1st read that article I was wondering why he moved to Canada!

But do you have "non custom shop" guitars from the 2004-2006 era? Or only custom shop ones. Because I'm pretty sure there's a difference.

I have both, USA Selects as well as Custom Shops. I still say you can't tell the difference

U10000 was built before the buyout, so yeah, it's a Pre-Fender. Made in America by Mexicans (if you go by the swag section of the 2002 catalog)

Seriously, Jackson hasn't had "6 or 7 guys" in the shop since the mid 80s. IIRC there have been no less than 20 people at a time involved in the build process from start to finish since about 1995. While the setup under AMIC's rule was that "everyone" built both the Customs and the Productions, they changed that after the buyout so that Customs are "Masterbuilt" only.

Fender has actually been good to the company so far.
Pretty good about limiting what you can order from the custom shop. We may have gained strat heads but we lost everything else.

I also noticed a difference in post Fender buyout Jackson's quality control that had included routing issues as well as crooked nuts. Lets not forget clear coat issues on all the Charvel headstocks. Toothpicks in holes that were drilled wrong...

FMIC started off a little slow then moved to great and then managed to cut there own throat by saying no to every custom shop idea possible.

I mean come on is it really that unethical for a company to make a guitar with the same control configuration and color as a artist that used that same guitar many years ago?

If I had to choose, I'd vote POST-Fender. In the case of my WR1's, I like the back of the neck painted. I also like to know my guitars stand a chance of out-living me!

Man, I've been away for a few days.

Ah, see, the below was the answer I was kinda looking for. For the record, the Serial Number on the axe that started this whole conversation is #UO9330. In case anyone cares. The guy on eBay said it was described to him as "amber lager burst". There's a Screamin' Demon in the neck. Man, this thing is totally spotless -- incredible condition for it's age. I think the guy said he was a bass player.

                            Thanks, dude.
