  • I'm annoyed...

I wanted to get a KV2 in the color of Amber Sunburst. This used to be an option for the KV2, but apparently not anymore. It is an option on their SL3 Soloist however. So I contacted Jackson to ask if they can put that color on a KV2 and I was told that in order for that to happen I would have to do a custom shop order. So basically, I need to more than double the price and extend the wait time until God knows when in order to get a color that is still being used on other models on the KV2. I think the last Jackson I bought will be just that; my last Jackson. I don't want anything changed, so going custom shop it ludicrous. I could see if this color was not offered on any models, but this is not the case. It is sad when you can pay 2600 or so dollars for a guitar and not get the bloody color you want.

I know bitching about it won't change it, but I am really frustrated by this and felt the need to vent. Sorry.

    Look for one used then?

And I bet 2600$ would get you what you want..from custom shop.

Yeah the days of a working musician spec'ing out a made-to-order Jackson with a few custom features for a reasonable amount of money are long gone.

Yeah, $2,600 will probably get what you want from the CS

I don't think so... I contacted two Jackson dealers and the prices that were quotes to me for a color that is available were 2300 from the first one, and 2550 from the second one. And I've been looking for a used one for about 6 or so months and haven't seen a single one in that color. Now I actually have the money to buy a new one and that really isnt looking like it is going to happen.

I don't know what to tell you. I'd contact one of the sponsoring dealers here (I'd recommend Nick from Piney Hills Music) and see what they can do for you.

I dont really think anything can be done at this point, but thanks. I just needed to vent.... I've been gassing over this guitar for a very long time (at least for someone as impatient as me).

Well here's a quote from McD

If you wanted an RR1 with EMG's, you're only paying for the EMG's. Make sense?
Going by that (assuming that's still how they price things) I'd imagine you'd just have to pay for the KV2 and an upcharge for the finish you want. Not sure though.

I've already had the same rant about this ages ago. Discontinued finishes and finishes restricted to certain models within the series.

Really? Where'd you find that quote? Like, how old is it?

I don't know though... I went back and forth a few times today via Email with one of their customer relations dudes and he didn't mention that.... he kept saying custom shop..... custom shop...

He said 4/29/2008 in this thread: http://www.jcfonline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=81773

I'd shoot McD a PM and see what's up.

$2500 seams a little high for just a paint change. On my custom KV I got different body wood and string through and the price was around that.

I think you might get better service going through an authorized dealer - one of the sponsors on this website. When you call Jackson directly, I don't believe you (a single guitar buyer) will get the same treatment as a dealer (guy who sells 20 guitars or more a year). I am actually surprised you were able to get in contact with someone. The dealers probably have contacts and connections that can make minor changes like this happen for minor upcharges. I have no information to back this up, but this seems to happen in business dealings all of the time. Give one of the dealers a shot - it can't hurt to try.
