  • JT6 anchor question

OK I'm stumped...what are those two circular cover thingies around the JT6 anchors? You can kind of see them in this pic:

Looks like they painted over the inserts to me, which makes it look like there's a little pink ring around each one where the seam is. JT-6 inserts are quite a bit thicker than OFR inserts.

Yeah, I think you are right. They just went and painted the tops of them. Budman has a pic:

My Soloist w/ the JT-6 has a washer around the post that screw into the inserts. I'm not sure what the purpose is, but that's what these look like. They may have painted it pink to match the guitar. You can kinds see them here:

Interesting. Are you sure they screw in? I'd have to think that it is really a pressure fit of some kind. The reason I'm interested is I'm trying to come up with something to hide the craters around the anchors on my JT6-to-OFR converted strat.

I have a 87 NT Telly and 87 Strat and 87-88 body. It is a decorative washer to cover the inserts. On the Telly they have come loose and are rattling around . The strat they are still in place and the body they are long gone. It looks like they were put in place right after being painted .

No they don't screw in, they are around the posts (and the posts screw into the inserts). Mine have come loose and have the same craters underneath.

Cool. Are they metal or plastic? How do they differ exactly from regular ol' washers? If anyone has any spares, PM me. I don't want to make too much of a project out of this, but if I can easily acquire parts to throw on there, why not.

Their metal and not very thick, not much of a difference from regular ol' washers at a glance. You could probably use a pair from the hardware store.

They are thinner than a credit card maybe 75% as thick . I am just eyeballing it .

Yeah, I'm looking at the trem posts, and there is a small groove around them just above the threads. My guess is maybe they snap in to place on that groove. They would have to be pretty thin, though.

It looks more like they were stuck on when the paint was still tacky. I have a few bare spots under the washers that are loose. If I turn the guitar upside down they slide all the to the base of the trem.

Good to know, thanks...I'd say my mystery is solved. Looking at the body again, I see depressions around the craters in the clear coat which are consistent with what you have described. Maybe I can find some washers that are the same size and glue those fuckers down...

I'm going to have to start a "best glue for attaching metal to urethane clear coat" thread. The "corksniffer haters" might get a little uppity over that, though!

Hey if anybody can post the dimensions of the outside and inside radiuses on that part, that would be great.
