  • Old Newbie - origin of my Jackson?

    Hello All !
What a great website! I just found your forum within the last couple of days, so please forgive any newbie faux pas I may make.

I've been a proud Jackson owner for approximately 20 years now, I picked up this sexy little gal (pictured below) sometime in the late eighties (could have been early 90's but it's all a bit fuzzy). She plays and sounds incredible.. then and now.

Years ago, I tried to find her origins (when the internet was young, and decent info (and porn) was scarce) to no avail. I just recently started my investigation again, and have found that this forum is the closest anyone has come to deciphering my neck plate and serial number.

SO... here is what I have to go on... the neck plate has the San Dimas P.O box address (which from my reading doesn't necessarily mean that this is where it was assembled?)... it has a four digit serial # (1676).. an original Floyd Rose, a single Jackson pup in the bridge.. and one volume knob. (which to me is genius).
Can someone give me the possible lowdown on when and where my guit was lovingly assembled and maybe by whom?

I'm including a couple pics I took quickly with tired eyes and a crappy camera phone this morning... I'll get some sharper shots later this weekend if that helps.

Thanks in advance for any info anyone can relay!

    Scott

judging by the serial and graphic it's probably an 87 or 88...i have a soloist with the same kind of finish except mine's metalflake reed and black crackle from the same time period...cool guitar...d.m.

Cool! I'm going with 1986 San Dimas Jackson Strat on this one.

Assuming serials went sequentially, and assuming Jackson's serial number chart is accurate (I guess those are two big assumptions), with such a low ###, with 1506-7303 encompassing 87 and 89, and San Dimas running 1001-1505 in 1986, that means they were making 500 annually immediately prior to Ontario..... so they made at least 100 in 1987, which makes it pretty likely that it's an early 87 Ontario.....

        Beautiful, wherever it was made.

Mine is #4978 and has a completion date of 2/1/1988 if that helps.

Welcome to the forum, Scott. I like the metallic gold and black combo looks great.

The neck plate looks to be in good shape, not much in the way of flaking.

                  I'd bet it's a 1986, My 9/29/86 bolt-on bears # 2959. It's an Ontario built,w/San Dimas plate.
You should have the "R" and not "TM" on the headstock. Take the neck off and the date will be written, maybe even the initials "BS" like mine in blk marker.
