  • Adrian Smith Just Arrived Today

Well I just picked up my Adrian Smith model today. I ordered it the week of NAMM and it only took a little more than two months. It's the ebony board version.

The sound of the guitar is great. The bridge pickup is perfect for 80's metal and the two single coils sound much better than I expected. The neck is wonderful. It has the same feel as a San Dimas, but just slightly bigger. I like the neck much more than the thinner San Dimas necks. Nice tight neck pocket. It comes with the typical Jackson molded case. Everything is perfect except the set up. The Floyd Rose is almost a 1/4 inch off the body and it the base side is much higher than the treble side. The action, although playable, is very high and not low enough for shred playing. It's an easy enough fix, but not what one would expect on a $2,000 guitar. I think they could have spent a few minutes doing a proper set up on a guitar in this price range.

In all, I'm very pleased with the guitar. I'm especially pleased with the short time wait for delivery. If you're on the fence and trying to decide if it's worth the money - I say go for it. It's definitly a guitar worth two grand. I've played a lot Charvels (This is basically a Charvel with a Jackson decal and neck plate) and it's every bit as good as any USA/Custom Shop Charvel I've played.

    Sounds excellent!! Got any Pr0n?
And for the action, doesn't Adrian like it higher than normal?
As far as I'm concerned he can stay with Dean and play his dots+fins KV copies, and whatever that aborted fetus he "designed". More like "I saw it in my puke". -Newc

Tung Oil is for guitar necks. Tongue Oil is a by-product of cunninglus. -Metalchurch79

You do realize "proper" setup is personal preference, right? Not to mention the fact it's gone from the factory across the country and the neck changes with climate (why do you think there's a truss rod?). Also, some people prefer the trem higher on the bass side than the treble side.
Congrats on the new guitar, though.

Why would there be an import thread when the Adrian Smith model is USA?

Congrats! My Charvel Natural has the Floyd way up off the body similar to what you are saying. The "action" is very low on the fretboard. I think, they may have set it up to pull back a great deal. I haven't touched mine, but it does look strange.
