  • No mojo?

I was droolin' over the Absynth Frost Soloist that you guys made happen in the Limited Edition part of this forum. Now I own one my self.
I've owned a fair share of Jacksons. I've had SL2H's before and loved them, but I just don't manage to play this one. And I don not have any idea why,. It's missing the mojo I've had with the other Jacksons I've owned. Now it has been put out for sale. Truth is that I love the build and it SHOULD have been the ultimate axe for me given the fact that it has a reversed headstock along with the rest of the Jackson magic. But as I've already stated we don't match for some reason. It doesn't resonate with me like the others.

Anyone else that has experienced this?

It bothers me though. This one just plays. My other Jacksons sings. I'm going to change strings from 0.09 to 0.10 which I use on some of my other guitars to see if it helps...

Send it to me. I'll see if I can figure your issue out.

I had that "unable to bond" experience with a beautiful SL2H I had once. I tried swapping in EMGs and still couldn't connect with it. So, it sat in its case, and the next time I needed $, it was sold.

It's understandable. New guitars need to be played quit a while and be "broken in". Minor adjustments always help. I have found a guitar needs to be played cranked up through an amp in a band setting for hours and hours to get it broken in. There is something about a guitar that has been exposed to the loud vibrations of musical sound. It helps achieve "mojo". Another recommendation is to try a Big Block in your trem.

I've had this happen to me before. In fact, I currently own a high end Les Paul that I thought I would instantly bond with... It now sits gathering dust while I play my Charvel.

It's a beautiful guitar, and I used to consider myself a "Gibson" guy, but I think I'm going to end up selling it.

In your case, at least you can probably find a nice new home for your guitar with someone from these forums.

Is it the sound or feel? Try changing pickups if it's just the sound. If it's the feel does it have a bad setup? that's made a big difference on a few guitars for me.

I'd say the setup is the most important for me. Sound isn't really a problem as that can be fixed by changing pickups IMO. I must try changing the floyd block tho..

I have yet to find a Jackson I have not bonded with. In fact I even bond to the ones on E-Bay just by looking at the ads

Yep, looks like you've picked up a guitar with a serious case of no mojo syndrome. There is no known cure for this condition and it is highly contagous. My suggestion is to give it to the first person that comes along before it infects the rest of your guitars. I would be happy to help you out and dispose of said diseased guitar for you. No thanks necessary, it's just the kind of team player I am.

I changed the strings from 0.09 to 0.10, which helped the feel, but it doesn't respond like my other SL2H has done. They sound is extremely "round" without being muddy. I don't get the attack that I want. Perhaps I should get some new pick-ups...

                          A DiMarzio Tonezone perhaps?

Tonezone? Now where did you ever get that idea??

I like the Tonezone in my SDIII. I recommend the pretty hardily. I just put a Full Shred in my Jackson, I'm liking it alot too. If you want some attack, that might be a good choice.
