But I'd bet it's a refin.....

Look at the end of the long fin...a bit rounded for a San Dimas orig, they were/are EXTREMELY pointy with a VERY thin finish...that coupled with the apparently high GLOSS is a dead giveaway.

I've seen & own/owned enough of these to know.

It definitely has Made in USA on the head, plus "TM". It's the original finish, and has a few dings here and there, however any which went through to the primer on the pointy ends have been touched up. The long point is indeed very pointy and thin, and sounds like balsa wood if you tap it. Definitely needs careful handling, and thankfully in it's 25 years since birth it's been looked after and still looks fantastic.

This is the same axe as I put in the gallery, I just at long last got the right trem on it, given that the inspiration to get one of these was seeing VV playing one with Kiss and this is exactly what he used.

The arm fits on with the usual earlier style collar as seen on Kramers, rather than the first one which stays on with a nut either side of the baseplate. You'll see that it has the same shorter arm as the German Floyds too. I have a prototype FR and a chrome version of this early non fine tuning example with those bolt on longer arms, and not being able to easily detach them, you can't get the guitar into its hard case!!!

What i LOVE about this forum is the diversity we all have in guitars and their years. Not only do we get to see old guitar pics, but we get a chance to learn more via all these posts on things such as the lack of the usa on older models or all the trem descrip. This Forum is absolutely amazing!

There are loads of slightly different pre Schaller units like this, plus the Schaller ones themselves which are most common, as fitted to some of the budget Kramers in mid 80's. Here are a few, 3 German Schaller ones (one of these has had nuts fitted to the allen bolts, which you can only do with the fully threaded type bolt, and the one at the back with no arm is left handed), a non branded very early one (bottom right) with the notched saddles, plus a Floyd Rose emblazoned pre Schaller version (rear left) same as the black one on my RR.
