Anyone have any suggestions? I dig the 80's shredish sound, I loved the Tone Zone but I hear good things about the JB with these.Originally posted by horns666The only thing I choke during sex is, my chicken..especially when I wanna glaze my wife's buns.

I have used and recommend the Duncan Full Shred or Custom. The Full Shred may be a little bright in an alder/poplar bodied guitar but might be nice on a Maple neckthrough. I used mine in a basswood bolt on Ibanez though so it should be okay. It can be a little thin sounding though. Great for leads, so-so for attack/chunk on chords.
Custom gives you a nice full range sound. I discovered it through recommendations here and I can tell you that right now I have no reason to ever again buy a different pickup. It is very jack of all trades for me. It doesn't stand out over and above specialty pickups in any area, but it does everything very capably. I find it similar to the JB in output just with a flatter frequency response curve. I still want to try a Custom 5 one day as I think with an Alnico magnet it would be the ultimate "Rock" pickup.
If you are looking for BROOTAL, check out the Blackouts. Ridiculous output coupled with a very balanced frequency output. (Slight low frequency emphasis I think.) I'm running the blackouts in my Charvel Model 5 and they have far more output than the Stock J-80c's with the JE-1200 midboost cranked. Its hard to get a clean sound set up with them because of having to bottom out the gain though. Some people have commented the neck one sounds a little sweeter when used as a bridge pickup and I could believe that. The added bonus is if the guitar is wired with the EMG quick connects, then you can use the same connectors for the blackouts.GTWGITS! - RacerX
