  • Stratty Neck Pickup needed for Soloist....

    Any suggestions?

The neck pup on my Soloist is nice but I prefer a much more "Stratty" tone in that position, if that's possible with a Soloist. Think Gilmour.

I just don't know which pups sound good in a Soloist.

    So what do you recommend?

Full sized humbucker? If so, then go for the Dimarzio Humbucker from Hell. It gives an amazing single coil tone in a humbucking package. I've got on in an Ibanez and I love it.

You could just install a coil tap, like just a push pull pot. Then you could go back and forth.
I hooked up my accelerator pedal in my car to my brake lights. I hit the gas, people behind me stop, and I'm gone.

Just buy the SAME pickup gilmour uses then!

I love the neck single in my soloist ( when i had one) But its the same pup thats in my DK1 so I love that too. It should be a SD SSL1 if im not mistaken. MY DK1 actually sounds more straty then my strat. So much so im gonna put the SSL1's in my strat.
Depends on what kind of strat sound ya want. The antiquities stuff is really nice. As is the curtual vintage stuff by dimarzio. But if ya want Gilmour tone. Get EMG SA's and the preamp.

gilmour uses EMGs AFAIK. SA IIRC?
since mixing actives with passives is always quite a hazzle, I suggest to get an 89 as addition for the bridge. it's splitable and will sound the same as an SA in single coil mode (85 in humbucker mode).
if you want to stay passive I can highly recommend the bill lawrence L280S. very warm and clear sounding PU. could be worth a try.

I don't know wether you've been there before, but http://www.gilmourish.com/ is a great recource for those, who are after the gilmour sound.
                      tremstick give-away (performer series trem)

Well I wasn't sure if the Solost body had a major impact on the puptone or not.

I do have the EMG system in my Strat. I was going for more of Gilmours passive neck tone in my Soloist.

I could just drop an EMG HSS set in it but I want a slightly different tone.
