But a 7 string RR would look crazy. Someone should photoshop a picture or something.

The headstock on the original DR-7 was a little smaller than the one on that alleged prototype, as is the inline headstock on my CS Stealth-7 pictured below. However, I also briefly owned a Jackson Stars SL-7 that had the mega-big headstock straight off of an '80s Concert Bass. The headstock doesn't have to be as big as on that green prototype. Even the reduced one is still quite a big honker, though. Personally, I think Jackson would be better off using the SLSMG-style 4x3 headstock.

I think the honker on my Stars is only about as big as the one on your Stealth, but it could be a trick of the body-shape. It's certainly a monster when compared to the 6-string headstock and the final overhang is longer than it needs to be.

Did you get that as a semi-custom? I don't recall any of the Ikebe runs having ebony fretboards or MOP logos. Whatever the case, it is seriously awesome.

My Stars SL-7 was an early one that was also a semi-custom (and not an Ikebe special), since it was a single hum guitar with only a volume control in a weird location. Its headstock was noticeably larger than the one on my CS 7, which itself is plenty large. The headstock on my Stars matched up exactly to the one on an '85 Concert Bass that I also happened to own at the same time. The headstock on my CS is the same size as the one on the COW-7, which appears to be the standard Jackson 7-string HS now.

The one on that prototype appears to be ridiculously large, though it could just be the angle. Also notice how the tuners appear to be further apart than on either of our guitars.

Thanks, yeah, it was a semi-custom I ordered through Ishibashi. I had a second in the works, a USA spec. all natural ash/maple one-hum SL7 with a reversed headstock. When Fender Japan took over J-Stars and shut down the CS shop, it got culled.

Your SL-7 was the white one Noodles subsequently owned, right? It's a sweet guitar, but not patch on your Stealth.

I think the reverse headstock disguises the size of the inline headstock. That's what I'd go with if I was designing/ordering an SL-7.

You're definitely right that it looks different and horrendous. Hopefully the pic was taken with a fish-eye lens and that wasn't the final prototype.

Regardless, unless there's a USA Select model, I don't think I'd be interested anyway.

Yeah, that's the one. Unfortunately, it was a complete dog tonally. A JCFer who was studying in Tokyo at the time found it in a local shop and was kind enough to ship it to me. I didn't even know about the Stars sevens until then. Noodles tried different pickups in it and just couldn't find a good combination to wake it up.

I agree, but I still think the SLSMG headstock is the best option. I have a 4x3 on my KXK 7-string, and it both looks better and doesn't jut out as far.

Seriously, my first assumption was that it was Photoshopped. It doesn't look like a final prototype.

Same here. I've gone away from 7-strings, for the most part, and it would take a USA Select to get my interested in buying another one. My CS Stealth-7 is nice, but it has a thinner neck than even the Ibanez 7620, so having a classic Soloist neck profile on a seven would be nice.

Sh*t! I can't see the pictures at my office. Can't wait to go back home to check it.

It will be a great NAMM for 7 stringers. Ibanez will release new 7 strings, including a guitar strongly influenced by EBMM John Petrucci models (http://www.sevenstring.org/forum/sev...or-2010-a.html) and Lag will finally release the Stephan Forte model (http://www.laboitenoiredumusicien.co...00SF-BSH-B.jpg).

Let's hope that the Jackson will not be too expensive, 'cause there will be some competitors. Anyway, I'll take the Jackson over everything.

I spoke to Corey, apparently they're still working on his signature model. It'll debut in NAMM 2011.

Still really looking forward to what Jackson's bringing out in two weeks or so. I'm mainly a Dean guy, but most of us Dean guys have learned not to expect anything exciting during NAMM.

delaying it a whole year is interesting...I guess Jackson is against releasing something at summer NAMM.
