  • Video of me shreddin' in the Charvel booth!

Today at NAMM, I plugged in the custom Kong Charvel to try it out. One of the Charvel dudes asked if he could film me for the Facebook page and I said yeah. And sure enough, there it is on their Facebook page. It's on the front page and says annonymous shredding or something like that.

By the way, to see the video, I think you have to be logged into Facebook and you have to click the thing at the top of the page that says to be a fan of Charvel.

How did you like the guitar? Did you play any others and/or did any of them stand out?

Yeah, it played great. No question about that. I didn't have a chance to play any others. One of the Charvel dudes (not the one filming me) wasn't too happy that I was playing it and took the guitar from me as soon as I finished playing it, and unplugged the cord from the amp.

Very nice indeed... not sure why the guy would be mad, you are helping to sell their guitars

It's NAMM. The only "people" buying guitars are dealers and they're buying them to resell at their stores so they don't want any unnecessary wear and tear on them. Besides, Charvel doesn't need any "help" selling their guitars at a trade show.

Well I personally cant get to all of the dealers to try them out so as a prospective customer on a 3k guitar I certainly likely seeing them demoed...

I'm sorry but I don't understand exactly what you're saying - "I certainly likely seeing them demoed"?

Let me clear some things up here. It seems that an issue is being made that really doesn't need to be made. Also, I think my choice of words implied something that I did not intend.

First of all, Charvel absolutely does allow people to play the guitars in the booth. In fact, the booth is set up exactly for that. They have an EVH half stack that's always on, a cord, and big box of picks on top. I went up to the Charvel/Jackson area several times over the last two days, and pretty much every time there was someone playing one of the guitars. Just on the other side of the wall are all of the Jackson guitars. They had signs next to the USA guitars that said "Do Not Touch The Guitars". There were no such signs in the Charvel area.

When I played the King Kong custom, the Charvel guy was not mad. He was mostly worried or anxious about me scratching or dinging it. He knew I was going to play it. Before I played the first note, he asked me to be extra careful, which I was. I think he was glad when I was done because of the fact that it was a custom one-off with a paint job by Mike Learn. It would have sucked big time if someone scratched it. But I didn't and he was cool, but also eager to put it back on the rack. Nothing wrong with that. In my earlier post, I was trying to say why I didn't try out any other guitars. I probably could have, but didn't want to ask for another. I then had a quick conversation with him about how I'm always careful with my guitars and never scratch them. And then he said that last year they had to repaint a bunch of the guitars, and I agreed with him that that was unfortunate. I had no problem with the guy.

When I went back there today, my buddy asked the same guy if he could try a guitar, and the guy immediately grabbed the new SoCal, plugged it in and handed it to my friend. After my buddy jammed for a few minutes, he handed it over to me and I did some more shredding. Great guitar by the way. When I finished, I handed it back to the same guy. Again, no problem.

So as you can see, there is no issue here. Yes, they liked me playing their guitar. They filmed me, heaped all kinds of praise on me when I was done, and promply posted it on their facebook.
