    National Association of Music Manufacturers

NAMM, the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM), commonly called NAMM in reference to the organization's popular NAMM trade shows, is the not-for-profit association that promotes the pleasures and benefits of making music and strengthens the $17 billion global music products industry. Our association—and our trade shows—serve as a hub for people wanting to seek out the newest innovations in musical products, recording technology, sound and lighting. NAMM's activities and programs are designed to promote music making to people of all ages.

They had to shorten it to NAMM because the acronym for National Associatation of Music Building Laymen and Artisans was already taken.

Nope... it's actually the National Association of Music Merchants. In a nutshell NAMM hosts 2 conventions each year in the US, one in the summer and one in the winter. This is where the manufacturers show their products and the dealers buy them. Endorsers are usually on hand to create dealer excitement and to perform. It's main reason for existing is so manufacturers can sell product. You've got to be a NAMM member (or know one) to attend.

Technically the group is now called International Music Products Association, but they kept the "NAMM" designation for the shows (I think because it's been known as that for so long).

BTW the only stupid question is the one you don't ask.

Maybe they should think about changing the name to IMPA? :ROTF:
