solder turning brown?

i've noticed a buildup of some sort of yellow/brown colored residue around a solder joint on one of my guitars. i was going to install a new pickup and was planning on just adding some fresh solder on top to connect it. basically will leaving in this old brown solder affect the sound at all? is it more prone to oxidation?
